Police: 30 minutes separate 2 break-ins reported on East Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti Township

By Kyle Feldscher

Two businesses on East Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti Township were broken into within a half hour of each other Wednesday morning, but it’s unknown whether they are related, police said.

The first break-in occurred at a closed business at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday at 1555 E. Michigan Ave., police said. A caller reported hearing loud noises coming from the business, but the intruder was gone by the time police arrived.

The suspect forced open a garage door to the business to get inside, police said. No suspect information in the break-in was available Thursday.

The second break-in occurred at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday at Vintage Performance Inc., 1180 E. Michigan Ave. Vintage Performance Inc. is about a half mile away from the closed business that was broken into a half hour before.

Police said an employee still inside Vintage Performance called police while the break-in was in progress. The caller said a man had entered the business through a ground-floor window.

When the intruder saw the employee, he left, police said. The man is described as a Latino man wearing a Carhart jacket and dark-colored jeans.

Nothing was reported stolen from either business. No further information was available Thursday afternoon.

Police did not say that the incidents were related or that the suspect in the Vintage Performance break-in also was a suspect in the first incident.

Anyone with information on these incidents is encouraged to call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at 734-973-7711.

I'm not surprised that the intruder had left before police arrived. It has been some very busy( horrific) days and nights for all officers and HVA. The overdoses, the attempted sucides, the accidents, their having to stage ect. I don't think AA news gets 5% of what our Police officers, Fighters, and EMT's do on their shifts. We need to be thankful for all they do, and really appreciate them. I know I do....and minor robberies, and break-ins is not a priority like saving lives in my eyes.

Maybe just really early for work?
