The rainy reflection search continues...
Mark Bialek
The day after my Thanksgiving Eve shoot, I headed back downtown to get a shot that didn't quite work out the night before. A light rain put a nice sheen on the pavement. The nearly empty streets made it possible to stand out in the middle of the road. I wanted a telephoto shot that emphasized the reflections. Main street (which is hidden from view here) divides this horizontal image in half. The elevation change and telephoto combo make for this interesting perspective. All that was done to this image was a levels adjustment and an unsharp mask. The Nocturne philosophy is to capture moments, in existing light, without manipulating the actual content of the image. To me it's all about the search and improvising on the spot. One of the things I'm noticing is how different the light is each time I go on a shoot. And with the winter coming, I can't wait to see what I can find next.
