Michigan's Connor Jaeger named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week
After helping the Michigan men’s swimming team to two victories last week, sophomore Connor Jaeger was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week.
It is the first time Jaeger has earned the award.
Jaeger was part of two relay wins at the Dennis Stark Relays on Oct. 14 to help the Wolverines to an overall team victory. Jaeger and teammate Sean Ryan won the 1000-yard free style relay with a time of 9:02:04. Jaeger was then part of the of the winning 800-yard freestyle team. Jaeger, along with Roman Willets and Ryutaro Kamiya won with a time of 6:44:97.
The next day, Jaeger won two individual events as part of the Michigan’s quad meet win over TCU, Notre Dame and Oakland. Jaeger finished first in the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle races, posting a career best time of 9:10:63 in the 1,000-yard race.
EMU player named volleyball Player of the Week
Junior middle blocker Kristen Baker has been named the MAC West Division Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career. Baker had 25 kills over the weekend as the Eagles (17-6, 5-3) defeated conference rivals Miami and Bowling Green. Eastern Michigan plays host to Buffalo and Akron this weekend in the first of five straight home contests.
Ezurike’s scoring streak leads U-M women’s soccer
Sophomore Michigan women’s soccer player Nkem Ezurike has found the scoring touch in the last four games, scoring six goals. Included in the streak was her first career hat trick in a victory over Purdue. Ezurike leads the team in scoring and is tied for sixth in the Big Ten in goals.
EMU women’s golf team wins again
Trailing by six strokes entering the final round of play, the EMU women’s golf team shot a final round 303 to finish with 912 (303-306-303). The round helped the Eagles win the Hoosier Fall Invitational by one stroke. Notre Dame was in command heading into the final round but finished second as they shot 913 (306-297-310).
The Eagles had four players finish in the top 15 as Sarah Johnson, Shannon Warner, Rushda Mallick and Meredith Fairbairn (who played as an individual) all finished 11th or higher. Johnson finished third overall shooting a score of 224 over the three rounds.
The victory is the second of the season for the Eagles as they previously won the Nittany Lion Invitational earlier this month.
Thompson earns medalist title
Michigan senior golfer Matt Thompson shot a career best 65 in the final round of the Windon Memorial Classic and tied a career low 205 to win his first title as a Wolverine. Thompson birdied three of the final five holes to win the tournament by two strokes.
Mack named Player of the Week
Michigan sophomore Rachel Mack was named the Big Ten’s field hockey Offensive Player of the Week. Mack scored both goals in the Wolverines' 2-0 win over No. 6 Penn State. The win moved Michigan into a tie for first place in the Big Ten and helped the Wolverines to their fifth straight win. Mack leads the team in scoring and is fourth in the Big Ten in goals scored and fifth in points.
