Bruce Crankshaw has played golf for more than 40 years, and he’s still searching for his first hole-in-one.

His son, David, is 9. He’s been golfing for, oh, a few weeks. He recorded his first ace on Monday at Georgetown Country Club.

Maybe it was the SpongeBob SquarePants golf ball.

“(David) found this optic yellow ball with SpongeBob SquarePants on it,” Bruce Crankshaw said. “He’ll say, ‘I’m going to hit SpongeBob in the face,’ and that’s exactly what he said before he hit the shot.”

David’s ace came on the second hole at Georgetown from about 71 yards out, and he “hit a really nice 5-iron,” Crankshaw said. “It hit short of the green and bounced right in the hole.”

David, a fourth-grader at Lawton Elementary School, was playing with three of his friends. They begged Crankshaw to take them out Monday after playing in a two-week golf camp at Georgetown.

“They were very excited (about the hole-in-one),” Crankshaw said. “Dad was maybe a little more excited.”

Great job David, I too got a hole in one there over 30 years ago. I did not realize what a big deal it is until after hundreds of games later it has not happened again. Keep you eye on the ball & have fun!

Way to go David. I play that course and I have trouble just hitting the green. Nice shot!

Congrats David, like your dad I have been seeking the elusive ace for quite some time now too. I hope you bought your dad and your friends a round of Cokes following the round.
