Andrew Erber (jr., M), Dexter: Erber led Dexter with 58 goals and 30 assists and contributed on defense as well. He took all but seven faceoffs throughout the season for the Dreadnaughts with a 79 percent success rate. Erber was a first-team All-SEC White Division selection and a Division 2 All-State honorable mention. Kevin Grupe (jr., A), Pioneer: Grupe led Pioneer with 44 goals and 17 assists. He set a school record for goals in a game against cross-town rival Huron with eight. Grupe was a first-team All-SEC Red Division selection and a Division 1 All-State third-team selection. Kyle Harris (sr., A), Saline: Harris led the Hornets in goals (52) and assists (24). He was first team All-SEC Red Division selection and a Division 1 All-State second-team selection. Harris plans to play at Central Michigan University, which plays in the MCLA. Matt Kolevar (sr., A), Father Gabriel Richard: Kolevar was Mr. Everything for the Fighting Irish and for the third straight year was his team’s leading scorer with 57 goals and 38 assists. He was Washtenaw County’s points leader with 95 and finished with 200 for his career. Kolevar was an All-Catholic League selection and a Division 2 All-State third-team selection. A 4.0 student, he will enroll in the engineering program at the University of Michigan in the fall and plans to try out for the Wolverines, who are defending MCLA national champions. Robert Modes (sr., D), Father Gabriel Richard: Modes was a force to be reckoned with, running the defensive third. Opposing coaches selected Modes for the All-Catholic League team and third-team Division 2 All-State. Michael Ramos (so., G), Father Gabriel Richard: The only underclassman Dream Team selection, Ramos made 252 saves in 19 games played and had a .651 save percentage. Ramos was an All-Catholic League selection and a Division 2 All-State honorable mention. Jack Schueller (sr., M), Greenhills: Schueller led the Gryphons in scoring for the second consecutive year with 69 goals and had 18 assists. It was also the second time he scored more than 50 goals in a season. Defensively, Schueller led the team in takeaways, and was a Division 2 All-State second-team selection. Schueller will attend the University of Michigan in the fall and plans to try out for the Wolverines. Alex Smith (sr., D), Saline: Smith was the top defender for a Saline’s regional semifinalist team. He was a first-team All-SEC Red Division selection and a Division 1 All-State honorable mention. Henry Upton (jr., A), Huron: Upton’s 71 goals to lead not just Washtenaw County, but the state as well. Upton also contributed 23 assists for the River Rats and was second in the county in points with 94. Upton was a first-team All-SEC Red Division selection and a Division 1 All-State third-team selection. Max Zwolan (sr., D), Pioneer: Zwolan is the latest version in a succession of big, strong, athletic Pioneer defenders with the strength to control the defensive end, but the stick skills and finesse to do so efficiently and effectively. A three-year starter and two-year captain, Zwolan, the AnnArbor.com player of the year, was a first team All-SEC Red Division selection and a Division 1 All-State second team selection after being a first team selection as a junior. He will continue his career at the University of Detroit Mercy.

Coach of the Year

Brian Callanan, Dexter: In his first year as head coach at Dexter, the New York/New Jersey import brought an East Coast flair to the sidelines for the Dreadnaughts. In its first year as a varsity MHSAA program, Dexter enjoyed a 12-6 record and advanced to the regional semifinals. Callanan hopes it’s the first step to the growth of lacrosse in Dexter.

SECOND TEAM

Zack Arnold (sr., A), Lincoln: Lincoln head coach Jeff Daniels named Arnold a key newcomer at the beginning of the season. The first-year varsity player had 57 goals, 25 assists and was a first team All-SEC White Division selection. Aidan Barrer (sr., M), Pioneer: Barrer contributed 32 goals and 17 assists for the Pioneers and played his best at the end of the season with four goals in two playoff games. He was a first-team All-SEC Red Division selection and a third-team Division 1 All-State selection. T.J. Braun (sr., M), Saline: Braun had 29 goals and 21 assists for the Hornets. He was a first-team All-SEC Red Division selection and a Division 1 All-State honorable mention. John Helvie (sr., D), Huron: Huron relied on its offense for victories, but Helvie held down the defensive end for the River Rats, often having to cover the opposition’s top scorer. He was a first-team All-SEC Red Division selection. Mike Jones (so., G), Pioneer: The underclassman was 12-3 as a starter for the Pioneers despite one of the toughest schedules in the state. He saved 59 percent of the shots he faced. Ryan Mickevicius (sr. A), Saline: With 32 goals and 18 assists, Mickevicius, combined with teammates, made sure opposing defenses couldn’t bear down on teammates Braun or Harris. He was an All-SEC honorable mention. Kevin Mors (sr., A), Dexter: Mors was second on Dexter in goals with 24 and led the team with 39 assists. He came up big in crunch time for Dexter with the last of his three goals in a 9-8 playoff victory over Tecumseh coming with under a minute to play. Nick Mrjoian (sr., D), Pioneer: A bruising defender with excellent ball skills and athleticism to complement his size and strength. Mrjoian was a first team All-SEC Red selection and a Division 1 third team All-State selection after being a second team selection as a junior. Sam Olson (so., A), Skyline: In limited time against varsity competition, Olson displayed why the Eagles could be a force to reckoned. The sophomore attacker averaged nearly two goals a game in Skyline’s eight varsity contests with 15 goals and five assists. He was a first-team All-SEC Red Division selection. Dylan Swanson (so., M), Pioneer: Cracking the Pioneer starting lineup as an underclassman is far from the norm, but Swanson justified the promotion with 17 goals and 19 assists. He was a first-team All-SEC Red Division selection and a third-team Division 1 All-State selection.
