2010 All-Washtenaw County Girls Swimming and Diving Team

Girls swimming and diving is the seventh in AnnArbor.com's series of 10 All-Washtenaw County teams from the fall sports season.

DREAM TEAM

Stephanie Boyle (sr.), Saline: The senior finished third in the 200-yard IM (2 minutes, 6.07 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.5) at the Division 1 state championships. Boyle also swam the anchor leg of the Hornets’ second-place 400 freestyle relay (3:30.1) at state. Her efforts helped Saline win its second straight Division 1 title.

Hanna Cowley (sr.), Pioneer: AnnArbor.com’s Swimmer of the Year capped off a perfect individual career at the state finals, claiming first in the 200 (1:50.62) and 100 (50.8 seconds) freestyle to finish eight-for-eight in the events for her career. She was SEC Red champion in the events as well. Additionally, Cowley was the anchor for Pioneer’s third-place 400 free relay (3:33.27) and fifth-place 200 free relay (1:38.69) at states.

Shannon Cowley (fr.), Skyline: In Skyline’s Division 2 state finals debut, Cowley pulled in the team’s best individual finish when she took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.23). The freshman also helped the Eagles’ to ninth place finishes in the 200 medley (1:49.78), 400 freestyle (3:37.27) relays and sixth in the 200 free (1:39.53) relay. Her efforts helped Skyline finish sixth. At the SEC Red finals, Cowley won the breaststroke and helped the 200 medley relay take first as Skyline finished second.

Cristina Czyrka (so.), Saline: Individually at the Division 1 state finals, the sophomore finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.77) and sixth in the 200 IM (2:10). She also helped Saline’s 200 medley relay finish third (1:47.19).

Anna DeMonte (jr.), Huron: The junior defended her Division 1 state title in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.87. DeMonte followed with a runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly (:56.11), before swimming the anchor leg of Huron’s 400 freestyle relay team (3:30) to a state championship. Her finishes helped Huron take fifth as a team. DeMonte won SEC Red titles in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke to help Huron take third at the league championships.

Casey Edwards (sr.), Dexter: Edwards finished out her tenure at Dexter with her first Division 2 state title in the 100 butterfly (:57.11). The senior helped Dexter’s 200 medley (1:53.10) and 400 freestyle (3:38.98) relay teams finish 11th, and its 200 freestyle relay take 10th (1:40.73). Edwards also helped Dexter claim its 13th straight SEC White championship with a first place finish in the 100 fly and second in the 50 free, while helping the Dreadnaughts’ 200 medley and 400 free relay teams to first.

Nikki Flynn (jr.), Saline: Flynn swam to third place in the 100 free (:51.88) and fourth place in the 50 free (:24.15) during Saline’s run for a Division 1 state championship. On top of that, the junior was the anchor for the Hornets in the 200 medley relay (1:47.19), which took third. She helped Saline’s 400 free relay take first at the league meet, adding No. 4 times in the 100 and 50 free, as the Hornets took first as a team.

Maddy Frost (so.), Saline: Frost was a part of Saline’s third-place 200 medley relay (1:47.19), took fourth in the 100 backstroke (:58.09) and finished fifth in the 50 freestyle (:24.16) at the Division 1 state finals to help Saline secure its second straight title. The sophomore took third in the 100 back and 50 free, and helped the 400 free relay take first at the SEC Red championships, where the Hornets came out on top.

Kimberly Graziano (so.), Skyline: The Skyline sophomore finished fourth in the 50 free (:23.37) at the Division 2 state finals. Graziano also swam in the Eagles’ ninth-place 200 medley (1:49.78) and 400 freestyle (3:37.27) relays and sixth in the 200 free relay (1:39.53), helping the Eagles claim sixth as a team. To end the regular season, Graziano took second in the 50 freestyle and helped the Eagles’ 200 medley relay to first at the SEC Red championships.

Anna Hargrove (jr.), Milan: At the Division 3 state finals, Hargrove finished third in the 100 backstroke (:59.66) and helped the 400 freestyle (3:35.72) and 200 freestyle (1:38.18) relays take first. Her showing helped the Big Reds finish third as a team. The Milan senior won the 100 back and helped the 400 free relay finish first at the Huron League meet.

Heather Kiger (jr.), Milan: Kiger won a state title in the 100 butterfly (:56.99) and helped the Big Reds’ 200 freestyle (1:38.18) and 400 free (3:35.72) relays claim first at the Division 3 state finals. Additionally, Kiger took fifth in the 100 free (:54.21). She ended the regular season with individual wins in the 200 IM and 100 fly and relays wins in the 200 and 400 free at the Huron League meet.

Paige Kostishak (sr.), Pioneer: The Pioneer senior finished fifth in the 200 free (1:53.48) and a sixth-place time in the 500 free (5:03.31) at the Division 1 state finals. Kostishak went on to help the Pioneers’ 400 free relay finish third (3:33.27) and 200 free relay take fifth (1:38.69), helping Pioneer finish sixth as a team. Kostishak took third in the 200 and 500 free, and helped the 200 free relay finish second at the SEC Red championships.

Jordan Rucinski (sr.), Saline: During Saline’s Division 1 state title showing, Rucinski took ninth in the 200 freestyle (1:54.32) and 11th in the 500 free (5:08.34). She also swam a leg on the second place 400 free (3:30.1) and fourth place 200 free (1:37.54) relay teams. The senior helped the 200 and 400 free relay teams claim first, and took fourth in the 200 free at the SEC Red championships.

Annie Tamblyn (jr.), Huron: Tamblyn finished second in the 50 (:23.56) and 100 (:51.03) free, and helped swim Huron’s 400 free relay to first (3:30) and 200 medley relay to fourth (1:48.04) at the state finals. At the league meet, the junior won an SEC Red title in the 50 free, finished third in the 100 breaststroke and aided the 400 free relay to second place.

DIVER OF THE YEAR

Taylor Ford (sr.), Saline: The senior took first place at the Division 1 state finals with 430.4 points. Ford was the No. 1 seed heading into the finals after winning regionals. She was also first place at the SEC Red championships. Ford was named the Michigan Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (MISCA) Division 1 Diver of the Year.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Dan Heikka, Milan: Led Milan to a third place finish at the Division 3 state finals as the most Milan swimmers (10) qualified for the finals than any season in his seven year tenure.

SECOND TEAM

Lexie Beemer (jr.), Skyline: Beemer finished seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.72) and helped Skyline’s 200 freestyle relay to sixth (1:39.53) at the state finals. She also swam on Skyline’s ninth-place 200 medley (1:49.78) and 400 free (3:37.27) relays.

Lauren Cook (so.), Milan: Cook swam a leg on Milans Division 3 championship 200 freestyle (1:38.18) and 400 freestyle (3:35.72) relay teams. The sophomore also finished ninth individually in the 500 freestyle (5:22.67).

Lauren Dark (sr.), Chelsea: Dark finished just short of a Division 3 diving title, taking second with 426.5 to the winning tally of 435.8 by East Grand Rapids’ Olivia Kassouni. She took first place at te SEC White championships.

Rebecca Dickey (so.), Skyline: Dickey took 14th in the 500 freestyle (5:12.51) and was on a duo of the Eagles’ relays, including the 400 and 200 free relays, which finished ninth and sixth, respectively. She finished fourth in the 200 IM at the SEC Red championships.

Elizabeth Gelb (sr.), Huron: Gelb swam the first leg for Huron’s state championship 400 freestyle relay (3:30) team and helped the 200 medley relay finish fourth (1:48.04). Individually she was ninth in the 100 butterfly (:57.81) and a 10th in the 200 IM (2:08.71).

Samadhi Kiridena (fr.), Huron: The freshman swam the third leg for the River Rats’ state championship winning 400 freestyle relay team, which took second at the SEC Red championships.

Emily Lau (so.), Saline: Lau finished 13th 100 butterfly (:59.24) and 14th in the 200 IM (2:12.54) at the state finals, and swam a leg on Saline’s third place 200 medley relay team at states. Was fourth in the 100 fly at the SEC Red championships.

Julie Lovejoy (sr.), Pioneer: Lovejoy helped the Pioneers’ 400 free relay finish third (3:33.27) and 200 free relay take fifth (1:38.69) at the state finals. At the SEC Red finals, the she helped the 200 free relay take second and the 400 free relay nab third.

Hannah Olsen (sr.), Chelsea: Finished sixth in the 50 freestyle (:24.92) and a seventh in the 100 free (:54.43) at the state finals and took first in both the 50 and 100 free at the SEC White championships.

Kate Rogers (fr.), Saline: Rogers finished eighth in the 200 (1:54.18) and 100 (:52.84) free, at the state finals and swam a leg on Saline’s fourth-place 200 free (1:37.54) and second-place 400 free relay (3:30.01) teams.

Ashleigh Shanley (so.), Skyline: Shanley finished fifth in the 200 IM (2:08.82) and fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.5) at the Division 2 state finals and was runner up in those events at the state finals.

Molly Shanley (sr.), Pioneer: The senior helped Pioneer take third in the 400 freestyle relay (3:33.27) and fifth in the 200 free relay (1:38.69) while finishing 10th in the 100 butterfly (:58.70) at the state finals. At the SEC Red championships, Shanley took runner-up in the 100 fly and helped the 200 free relay take second.

Emily Weber (sr.), Milan: Weber swam a leg on Milan’s first place 200 free and 400 free relay teams at the state and Huron League championships.
