2010 All-Washtenaw County Softball Team

Softball is the sixth in AnnArbor.com's series of 10 All-Washtenaw County teams for the spring sports season.

DREAM TEAM
P - Kat Hoffman (jr.), Milan: The junior pitcher received Division 2 All-State honorable mention recognition, and was named all-league, all-district, all-region and all-Monroe County. On the mound, Hoffman went 11-3 with a 1.78 earned run average. She struck out 95 batters and walked 27. Threw a two-hitter in Milan’s district title game win. As the Big Reds’ leadoff hitter, she scored 51 runs on 47 hits while batting .599.

C - Emily Kent (jr.), Huron: Kent finished the season with a .455 batting average and a .591 slugging percentage while hitting cleanup for the River Rats. The junior catcher had a .603 on-base percentage, tallied 30 hits, including seven doubles and a triple, and knocked in 15 runs. Named to the All-SEC Red first team.

IF - Carly Carn-Saferstein (sr.), Pioneer: A Division 1 All-State honorable mention player, the Pioneer second baseman was also named all-Southeastern Conference Red Division, all-region and all-district. She led Pioneer at the plate all season, finishing with a .418 batting average and a .533 slugging percentage on 41 hits. She drew 18 walks, had 16 RBIs and scored 24 runs. She was nearly perfect defensively, finishing with a .960 fielding percentage and 33 put-outs.

IF - Nena Doran (jr.), Milan: Doran had a team-high 59 hits, good for a.522 batting average and .938 slugging percentage. The third baseman had 16 doubles, eight triples, five home runs and 36 RBIs. Her play helped Milan claim a Huron League title and a Division 2 district championship. She was named all-league, all-district, all-region and all-Monroe County.

IF - Lani Ernst (sr.), Milan: Ernst hauled in a slew of hardware this past spring. Along with being named AnnArbor.com’s Player of the Year, Ernst was voted Monroe County MVP, Huron League MVP and first team All-State. The shortstop’s offensive stats included 53 hits, 43 RBIs, 42 runs and five home runs. Her .473 batting average and.759 slugging percentage led the Big Reds (32-6) to a Huron League championship and a D2 district title.

IF - Ellie Stoffer (jr.), Chelsea: Stoffer provided a load of offense to the Bulldogs’ 27-8 season, the program’s best record since 2004. While batting .421, the first baseman knocked in 55 runs on 45 hits, including 15 doubles and five triples. The junior scored a team-high 44 runs and stole 17 bases. She was an all-SEC White selection and was named all-district and all-region honorable mention.

OF - Emily Ouellette (sr.), Saline: Ouellette boasted a .495 batting average and a .544 slugging percentage, finishing the year with 51 hits, 10 RBIs and 36 runs scored. The senior added 46 stolen bases in 47 attempts. She was named to the Division 1 first team All-State, adding to her honors as all-SEC Red, all-district and all-region. Ouellette’s efforts helped the Hornets secure a D1 district title.

OF - Kaitlin Ward (sr.), Saline: Ward carried a clutch bat in Saline’s run to a D1 district championship, finishing a combined 4-for-7 with two RBIs and two runs in the semifinals and finals. The senior finished the year with 46 hits, including 11 doubles and 10 triples, 25 RBIs and 29 runs. She hit .455 with a .762 slugging percentage. She was named first team all-SEC Red, all-district and all-region.

OF - Marie Zill (jr. OF), Chelsea: Zill was a constant offensive threat for Chelsea, which had its best record since 2004 (27-8). She stole 44 bases on 44 attempts, scored 50 runs, finished with a .491 average (53 hits). She was named all-SEC White, all-district and all-region honorable mention. In the Bulldogs’ 9-2 Division 2 district loss to Tecumseh, the junior finished with a team-high three hits along with two stolen bases.

Coach of the Year Stacey Heams, Milan: In her first season as Milan’s head coach, Heams led the Big Reds to a D2 district championship and a 32-6 overall record, including a 12-0 Huron League mark to win the league title for the second year in a row.

CLASS A FIRST TEAM
P - Kristina Zalewski (fr.), Saline: The youngster was an all-SEC Red and all-district pitcher for the D1 district champion Hornets. She struck out 233 batters in 135 1/3 innings and finished with a 1.97 ERA. She gave up only 12 extra base hits. At the plate, Zalewski batted .303 with six doubles.

C - Chelsea Lund (jr.), Dexter: Had a .969 fielding percentage with 14 putouts, 17 assists and only one error behind the plate. At the plate, Lund finished with 30 hits, including nine doubles, and 11 RBIs. An all-district nominee.

IF - Kristy Arbour (sr.), Huron: Named to the all-SEC Red and all-district first teams. The Miami, Ohio-bound pitcher was kept off the mound for most of the season by a back injury. She hit .631 on 48 hits, including 12 doubles, three triples and seven RBIs, as a shortstop.

IF - Karley Crawford (jr.), Dexter: Crawford was named to the all-SEC White team and was an all-district nominee for the Dreadnaughts. The first baseman finished with 32 hits and 16 RBIs while batting .343 with a .457 slugging percentage.

IF - Danielle Lauth (sr.), Lincoln: Racked up a team-high 44 hits, including 16 doubles, six triples and six home runs, and led the team with 42 RBIs. An all-SEC White selection, Lauth finished with a .453 batting average.

IF - Gina LePenta (jr.), Lincoln: The second baseman posted a .375 batting average,.520 slugging percentage and 20 RBIs. She also held an impressive .987 fielding percentage.

OF - Julia Francheschi (so.), Pioneer: The all-district performer had five doubles among her 25 hits and finished with a .301 batting average and seven RBIs.

OF - Megan Kelly (so.), Ypsilanti: The Phoenix’s most productive offensive player batted .368 with 19 RBIs, a home run and six stolen bases. Earned all-SEC White and all-district honors and was given Ypsilanti’s Golden Bat award.

OF - Erin Moffett (sr.), Lincoln: Had two home runs and four doubles as part of her 33 hits on the season. She finished with 11 RBIs and a .393 batting average for the 20-12 Railsplitters.

CLASS B-C-D FIRST TEAM
P - Kaylee Dixon (sr.), Chelsea: Dixon capped her career with a 2.01 ERA, 140 strikeouts and 12 wins. She also contributed a .311 batting average with 31 hits and was named all-SEC White honorable mention.

C - Daviana Gustafson (sr.), Willow Run: Drove in 43 runs for the 26-8 Flyers. Gustafson, who batted .493 on the year, finished with 39 hits, including six doubles, two triples and four home runs.

IF - Emmalee McCurdy (sr.), Willow Run: Finished with a team-high 60 RBIs and a .518 batting average. She tallied 44 hits on the season, including eight home runs, six doubles and eight triples. Named all-district.

IF - Shelby Platt (sr.), Chelsea: The catcher/second baseman finished with 28 hits, 26 RBIs and a .292 batting average. Selected to the all-SEC White and all-district teams.

IF - Roxanne Rickert (sr.), Manchester: The third baseman hit .418 with 41 hits and 41 RBIs. She finished with eight doubles and four home runs while scoring 29 runs. Named all-Cascades Conference, all-district, all-region and Manchester’s MVP.

IF - Amie Ribotis (sr.), Father Gabriel Richard: The shortstop finished with 24 hits and a .293 batting average, earning all-Catholic High School League honors. She also scored 23 runs and knocked in 11 runs.

OF - Cheyenne Brierley (so.), Milan: Named to all-Huron League, all-district and all-region teams. Brierley had a .398 batting average and.469 slugging percentage with 39 hits, 18 runs and 34 RBIs.

OF - Taylor Hanson (so.), Chelsea: An all-SEC White and all-district honorable mention player. She ended the year with a .470 batting average with 31 hits and 18 RBIs. Also earned 13 wins with a 2.35 ERA on the mound.

OF - Nichole Jackson (so.), Manchester: Named all-Cascades Conference and all-district, Jackson hit .420 with 42 hits, including six doubles and a home run. She added 34 RBIs and 34 runs.

CLASS A HONORABLE MENTION
