The Chelsea High School hockey team advanced to the MHSAA Division 3 state semifinals on Wednesday, defeating Allen Park 2-1 in quarterfinal action at Allen Park Civic Arena.

Brad Hepler and Kyle Whipple provided all the scoring the Bulldogs (21-4) would need in the first period. Allen Park scored two minutes, 52 seconds into the third period, but Chelsea's defense held strong the rest of the way.

Chelsea outshot Allen Park 30-11 in the game with Chelsea goaltender Chris Boyd finishing with 10 saves.

Chelsea will play Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett at noon Friday at Compuware Arena in Plymouth.
