Pioneer crushes Monroe to stay atop SEC Red standings and more Friday night results

The Pioneer High School boys basketball team maintained control of the Southeastern Conference Red Division race with a 61-34 win at Monroe on Friday night.

Jibreel Hussein scored a game-high 17 points for the Pioneers (13-4, 8-1), who led 35-12 by halftime and cruised to the win.

"We've got a lot of work to do, but I like the fact that we control our own destiny," said Pioneer coach Rex Stanczak, whose team is one game ahead of Huron and Temperance Bedford.

Huron has won the past two SEC Red titles. Before that, Pioneer had won four in a row.
