Saline hockey team avenges loss to Pioneer and more Saturday results

By AnnArbor.com Staff

The Saline boys hockey team avenged a 3-2 loss to Pioneer High School back in December at the Big House when it beat the Pioneers by the same score Saturday at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.

Tied 2-2 with the Pioneers early in the third period, Saline's DJ Aben beat Pioneer goalie Spencer Peck with 14 minutes left on the clock off assists from James Olson and Seth Giles. Aben's goal proved to be the game winner.

Pioneer (8-6, 3-1 SEC Red) only had one shot on goal for the rest of the game, but Saline coach Drew Denzin said the pressure never relinquished.

"They pulled their goalie at the end," Denzin said. "They had some sustained pressure for the last 30 or 40 seconds. They got called for too many men on the ice with 20 seconds, and at that point it was pretty much over. It came down to the wire as usual."
