When Saline High School's Amy Jedele hit a pop-up in between first base and the pitcher's mound, she probably didn't expect it to result in the game-winning runs for her team.

But, thanks to an Ypsilanti error - the first baseman and pitcher collided in a rush for the pop-up - Saline's Paige Cooper and Caleigh Bond rounded the bags for the go-ahead runs in the Hornets' 3-2 comeback softball victory in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader sweep in Ypsilanti.

"We're lucky," admitted Saline coach Alicia Seegert, whose team trailed 2-0 heading into the top of the seventh. "It was awesome for the kids. But they really realized that they were lucky. The Ypsi kids played hard."

Jenna Santure fired seven strikeouts in the complete game-victory. Amber Frye led Ypsilanti with two hits and an RBI.

The Hornets carried over the monentum into game two of the doubleheader, an 11-0 victory.

"Before the second game we had a little chat and they came out ready," said Seegert. "We got out pretty quickly with the bats."

Saline sure did, scoring seven runs in the opening frame. The Hornets added a run in the fifth and three in the seventh.

Highlighting the offense was a three-run home run by Sarah Tommelein. Rachel Gould, Kristina Zalewski and Cooper each had two hits.

Meanwhile, keeping the Phoenix in check from the mound was Zalewski, who threw a one-hitter with no walks and 14 strikeouts.

"She (Zalewski) had a great day," said Seegert. "She had good speed and movement on her pitches tonight, and it really kept them off-balanced."

Africa Schaumann's double was Ypsilanti's lone hit in game two.

MORE SOFTBALL Tecumseh 12, Pioneer 3; Tecumseh 10, Pioneer 0: Hits were scarce for the Pioneers (1-3) in their road losses. "We came out and knew Tecumseh was going to be tough competition for us," said Pioneer coach Elissa Brode, whose team was held to two hits in game two. "Tecumseh, to be honest, put the ball where we were not and that kind of set the tone for the two games." Megan Mosher, Leslie Adams and Carly Carn-Saferstein had two hits apiece for Pioneer. Adrian 11, Skyline 0; Adrian 15, Skyline 0: Hanna Steinberg supplied the only hit, a single, for the young Eagles in their shutout road losses to the Maples. Adrian's Kelly Butler threw a perfect game in the five-inning opener and Karissa DeVore fired a one-hitter in the three-inning nightcap. In game one, Natalie Keene threw two strikeouts for Skyline (1-5). Samantha Garcia led Adrian in game one with three RBIs and Jenna Hines led in game two with two RBIs. The Gryphons were plagued by 10 errors and Oakland Christian fought back for the win. Greenhills held a late 16-12 lead before giving up seven runs in the sixth. Lauren Zanger led the Gryphons (0-5) with two hits and three RBIs. Katrina Kacyznski, Haley Schreier and Jacqui Spears added two RBIs each. Monroe 2, Lincoln 1; Lincoln 7, Monroe 2: Monroe, ranked as high as No. 4 in Division 1 this season (currently honorable mention), had two of its three hits and scored its lone two runs in the first inning of the opener before Lincoln's Devin Wilson shut them down the rest of the way. In the third inning, Madison VanHaren doubled home Wilson for Lincoln's only run. In game two, Wilson again kept Monroe at bay, giving up only two runs. She had 14 strikeouts, one walk and gave up four runs on the day. Offensively, Lincoln broke the game open in the first with four runs. Danielle Lauth was 3-4 with two runs and two RBI in the game while VanHaren went 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored. (Game 1 Boxscore | Game 2 Boxscore)

BASEBALL Dexter 6, Huron 5 (8); Huron 5, Dexter 4 (6): Huron and Dexter split, but the Dreadnaughts got the win that counted most by taking the first game with a Spencer Walz single in the bottom of the eighth after Huron scored four times to take a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh. In SEC crossover doubleheaders, only the first game counts toward league standings. Walz was 3-for-4 in the game with two RBIs. Ryan Nikishear hit a two-run single in the seventh to tie the game for Huron and later scored on an error. Henry Haley got the win for Dexter. In game two, which was shortened to six innings due to darkness, Huron scored in the top of the sixth to get the win. Brian Ziemba earned the win for Huron, with Ned Messmore picking up the save. Monroe 7, Lincoln 5; Lincoln 9, Monroe 6: Monroe scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the opener. Losing pitcher Andrew Dillon was 2-for-3, including a solo home run, and scored three times. Kyle Deuel drove in two runs. Lincoln took control of the second game quickly, scoring eight runs in the first inning. Deuel drove in two more runs while Tyler Spalding, Mike Golowick and Cole Holley had two hits apiece. Temperance Bedford 4, Chelsea, 3; Bedford 8, Chelsea 7 (6): Bedford scored winning runs in the top of the last inning in both games. In game one, back-to-back Chelsea errors to start the top of the seventh led to a game-winning single for the Kicking Mules. Chelsea (1-8, 0-2 SEC) spread 12 hits throughout the game, but baserunning errors were among the things that prevented the Bulldogs from scoring more runs. With the game tied 7-7 in the sixth inning of game two, Bedford hit a solo homer to win the game. The teams played only six innings due to darkness. Patrick Roberts was 2-for-3 with five RBIs, a run scored, a double and a three-run home run for Chelsea. (Game 1 Boxscore | Game 2 Boxscore)
