In Brief: Victors 5K run/walk registration continues; AAU basketball tryouts in Chelsea

By AnnArbor.com Staff

The fourth annual Victors 5K Run/Walk for Diabetes Awareness is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Nichols Arboretum in Ann Arbor.

All proceeds from the event -- organized by Students for Diabetes Awareness -- benefit research at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Diabetes Center, as well as American Diabetes Association Summer Camps, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan.

Register at www.active.com for $20 before the event or pay $25 on the day of the race. Additional donations can be made online.

Students for Diabetes Awareness is a University of Michigan student club comprised of undergraduates who either have diabetes or have friends or family members who have diabetes.

AAU basketball tryouts

Middle school and high school boys interested in playing with the Western Washtenaw Basketball Association AAU program are invited to attend tryouts from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday at Chelsea High School.

The tryouts are for boys currently in grades 7 through 11. The AAU season for the WWBA -- which emphasizes individual skill development and teamwork in a competitive environment -- will end in late May.

There is no cost for the tryouts, but parents will need to sign medical release forms. The costs for the season is expected to be $250 per player, with an opportunity to reduce that amount through fundraising. For more information about the WWBA program, visit wwbawarriors.wordpress.com.
