Local athletic groups Club Wolverine and Gym America getting in Olympic spirit

Local athletic clubs are getting into the Olympic spirit and offering unique ways to watch the action from London.

Club Wolverine is inviting prospective age-group swimmers between the age of 5 and 17 a chance to watch a night of Olympic swimming action while floating in the University of Michigan’s Canham Natatorium pool.

The Club Wolverine Splash Bash will run from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31. During that time, former Club Wolverine swimmer Michael Phelps will compete in the men’s 200 butterfly final and former Club Wolverine age-group swimmer Allison Schmitt will swim in the 200 freestyle. (More details)

Swimmers interested in joining Club Wolverine will be evaluated and given a suggested training group that fits his or her goals and skill level.

Pizza will be served. Bring your own floatation device.

On the same night, Gym America is hosting its “Olympic Experience” at the Saline High School gymnasium. Activities begin at 6:30 p.m. and are followed by the viewing of the women’s gymnastics team finals on a movie screen beginning at 8 p.m.

Admission is free and food and beverages will be available at the concession stand. (More details)

Arctic Edge in Canton is also doing something on the ice as well. As for swimming? We did that too. Thanks for the info but I think I'll keep my ducks on dry land.
