Michigan hockey team to host Notre Dame in CCHA playoffs
The Michigan hockey team will face Notre Dame in the quarterfinal round of CCHA playoffs this weekend at Yost Ice Arena.
As the No. 2 seed, Michigan enjoyed a first-round bye last weekend while the No. 9-seeded Fighting Irish swept No. 9 Ohio State with 2-0 and 4-2 victories on Friday and Saturday. Because the brackets are reseeded after every round, the second-round matchup wasn't set until No. 11 seed Bowling Green defeated No. 6 Northern Michigan, 4-1, on Sunday night. It was the only series of the first round to go to a deciding third game.
Michigan will face Notre Dame in a best-of-three-series with games Friday and Saturday at Yost at 7:35 p.m. A third and deciding game would be played Sunday.
Miami will host Michigan State, Western Michigan will host Lake Superior State and Ferris State will host Bowling Green in the other quarterfinals. The winners of the four quarterfinal series head to Joe Louis Arena in Detroit for semifinal games on Friday, March 16. The third-place and championship games will be played Saturday, March 17, at JLA.
Michigan split two games at Notre Dame in late January, losing 3-1 and winning 2-1.
