Stephen Colbert takes aim at David Brandon, Domino's Pizza
Stephen Colbert takes aim at the new Domino's Pizza in a recent segment of the Colbert Report, just as the company's CEO, David Brandon, takes over as the next Michigan athletic director.
The timing leaves Brian Cook of mgoblog.com wondering if Jim Tressel is secretly "a Bond villain whose nefarious plot was to create and deploy some sort of negative PR black hole in Ann Arbor."
Here's the Colbert segment in question:
The Colbert Report | Mon - Thurs 11:30pm / 10:30c
Alpha Dog of the Week - Domino's Pizza
|
Cook discusses the video in more detail and picks apart some anti-Big Ten venom in his most recent post on mgoblog.com.

I wouldn't have even ordered from Domino's, but my wife did on Friday and I was surprised that the pizza was actually good. Thin crust, tons of toppings, it's hard to go wrong, but the old Domino's certainly would have.

Anthony's is all class, but that's a differnt kind of pie. In Depot Town used to have this pace called Pizza Garden that had an even better Chicago style than Anthony's. But you couldn't go wrong with either.

Anthony's Gourmet Pizza is great, try it tonight. It takes a while but is well worth the wait.

The Stewart Carlson was kinda funny I'm a right winger(big time) myself but to think that Stewart needs to ask in depth questions is really silly it is called Comdey centeral. It's like when people analize and disputes facts about a SNL skit. And yes Stewart is very left wing but I just don't take everything that seriously

Ok I was a bit hasty calling Colbert a hack, I watched the vid and I will admit I chuckled at a few of those lines "just pour ketchup on the box it came in" being a good one. I still won't watch his show but I may have been a little harsh with my criticisms I was in a foul mood yesterday lol

Duh sorry obviously I meant Stewart on Crossfire. I didn't see anything of Stewart "Destroying" that dweeb Trucker Carlson. I saw Stewart WAY too full of himself and a professional comedian heckling a dork...oh wow how impressive. And again, my main point was this is so long ago and you're bringing it up liek it's the hip thing on the net...grow up.

I work with Domino's on its social media efforts and we're very excited to see that Colbert took notice of our new pizza. Not many companies get to be named "Alpha Dog" of the week!

HAHA, Blklight (aka David Brandon) is cracking me up. - You should be a film critic! You could talk about how bad all the films you've never seen are. Or maybe criticize all the books you've never read? - Ignorance is bliss, my man. Keep livin' the dream.

We tried the new recipe. It's definitely better. Not great, but better. I still prefer Little Caesars now that they've changed back to their original recipe and lowered their prices. Can't beat feeding 3 kids for $5. I suggest Cottage Inn's Southwestern Chicken - much better than anything from Dominos.

Lokalisierung, let me fix that for you. |Back to the Colbert of Crossfire thing really? Come on people...let's get over that one. Wasn't nearly as cool as you think it is. Also while I'm at it let me correct you. It was Jon Stewart that destroyed Carlson on his own show. Stewart man handled him to the point that Crossfire was canceled weeks later and Tucker is no longer wearing his patented bow-tie. I think it's safe to say that Stewart, Colbert, and South Park carry the entire station. I don't know any republicans with a treadmill in outer space named after them.

One would have to understand and appreciate irony in order to appreciate Colbert. Clearly irony is not a strong point of many who post on this website.

Let's be honest here. Most, if not all, of the commercially sold pizzas are garbage food. You buy them because they taste good and/or you don't feel like cooking something decent to eat. I've tried them all - Domino's, Little Sleezers, Jets, Cottage Inn, New York, Papa Johns, etc, etc. They ALL use relatively low quality ingredients to keep the price competitive and the taste reflects it. I can't tell the difference among them quite honestly. When it comes down to it, if you want good pizza, make it yourself with quality ingredients.

Back to the Colbert of Crossfire thing really? Come on people...ket's get over that one. Wasn't nearly as cool as you thin it is. Colbert is funny but Stewart is lame. nothing I hate more than someone laughing at "their" own jokes casue they're reading it for the first time. Maybe Fallon will raplace him.

Blklight, Colbert is a hack? A hack is somebody like Tucker Carlson, see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFQFB5YpDZE I'm guessing you are one of the Americans that believes that Colbert is a republican ( http://motherjones.com/riff/2009/04/conservatives-think-colbert-serious ) Sorry, you don't find the humor in Stewart/Colbert, it must just fly right over your head. The conservatives tried to copy the format and failed miserably http://ace.mu.nu/archives/215699.php Also, a shout out to Comcast for finally giving us Comedy Central in HD!

Domino's is with out a doubt the worst pizza in the U.S. I hope David Brandon is a much better athletic director than a pizza man.

Stephen Colbert is funny, he makes fun for a living, people need to understand that. It means more that he thought the Michigan athletic department situation was worth mentioning on his national show. Dominos is famous for bad pizza, a joke ripe for the making.

Dominoes pizza is not very good. And it is overpriced. The real reason for the "new recipe" is to come-up with lower ingredient costs, as the competition is killing them. Maybe they can inject more air into the dough and skimp on other costs like the suace and cheese (is it still cheese?)

And to keep it 100 with the board here I didn't even watch the video so I really don't know what SC even said, it could have been a hilarious bit but I'll never know cause I stopped trying to find his humor funny a long time ago. Maybe I'll give him another chance sometime but I seriously doubt it

I meant to type "thought" not though in my last comment...as for Colbert I have given him and his schtick multiple attempts but I just do not find his brand of "tongue in cheek" humor to my liking. Sorry if you're feelings are hurt because someone doesn't like your hero, but that's my opinion lol

Domino's new recipe is very good and I have already ordered from them twice since they changed. Stephen Colbert is a hack, never though him or Jon Stewart was that funny
