His freshman season ended more than three months ago, but Trey Burke is still turning heads.

The Michigan basketball sophomore point guard has spent time with NBA point guards Chris Paul and Deron Williams this summer, and seems to have left his impact alongside some of the best college lead guards in America.

"He has a great command of the ball and is a terrific open court passer," analyst Reggie Rankin wrote of Burke at this weekend's Deron Williams' Skills Academy in Chicago. "He can also knock down open jumpers on the break or when reading the defense as he comes off ball screens, can nail ball-reversal spot up 3s and make a play when the offense breaks down.

"Burke has worked to become a complete point guard and his improvement is easy to see, along with his improved strength."

Rankin listed Burke as one of the top four national standouts at both Williams' and NBA forward Amar'e Stoudemire's skills camps.

Other standouts this weekend, per Rankin, are North Texas forward Tony Mitchell, Ohio State forward Deshaun Thomas and Creighton forward Doug McDermott.

Burke was the only point guard on the list.

After nearly opting to skip his sophomore season for the NBA draft, Burke will return to the highly-touted Wolverines in 2012-13 -- a team ranked as high as No. 5 in various preseason polls.

The co-Big Ten Freshman of the Year says he isn't worried about a sophomore slump, though, adding that he's spent a great deal of time preparing for how teams might guard him next season.

"I had to learn how to read the way teams were guarding me and then adjust to score and get my teammates involved,” he told “I had to get in the film room and learn all the reads off pick-and-rolls and it has really paid off for me.”

Trey, This is how you go from an end of 1st rd./2nd rd. draft pick to a lottery pick. Wise choice in coming back for another season.
