By Nick Baumgardner

Zack Novak has turned heads for the third year in a row with his work in the classroom.

On Thursday, the Michigan basketball senior captain earned a Capital One Academic All-District V honor for a third consecutive season.

A business major at Michigan, Novak was joined on the team by Loyola's Ben Averkamp, Ohio State's Aaron Craft, Northwestern's Drew Crawford and Butler's Ronald Nored.

To be eligible for the honor, which is voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America, a student-athlete must be a starter or prominent reserve with at least a 3.3 grade-point average.

Novak, who is also a finalist for the 2012 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, is averaging 9.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists this season for No. 23 Michigan (17-6, 7-3 Big Ten).

Along with his fellow honorees, Novak is eligible for nomination to the national Capital One Academic All-American team. Selections for the national awards will be made later in February.

With eight games to play, Novak ranks fourth on Michigan's 3-point field goals list, and is 20 points away from 1,000-point barrier for his career.
