Former Michigan star football player, wrestler Johnny Greene, 89, dies

Johnny Greene, a star football player and wrestler at Michigan in the 1940s, died Thursday. He was 89 years old.

Greene was captain of the 1944 Big Ten Championship Wrestling Team. Greene played in the College Football All-Star game after his senior year before joining the Detroit Lions. He played with the Lions for eight years, three times leading the Lions in receiving and was also named offensive captain. He was named to the Michigan Hall of Honor in 1989.
