Michigan Stadium tunnel paint job now includes Bo Schembechler's 'the team, the team, the team'

The tunnel at Michigan Stadium now contains a final message for football players as they head toward the field.
"The TEAM, The TEAM, The TEAM," is painted in blue lettering with maize trim and is shown in a Twitpic by Andy Reid, a reporter at The Wolverine magazine.
The phrase stems from a speech by former Michigan coach Bo Schembecher.

The previous sign sad "Hard Edge." I wasn't sure if it was meant to motivate or warn people from bumping their heads.

Mick, don't be too hard on the Bucky. First he has that big "head" mostly filled with hot air. (see likeness) His team is in serious trouble with the Barney Fife, or is it Barney Rubble, over at the NCAA. He knows his group of football players are made up of people who will cheat, steal, and lie to get what they want. So if good ol' Bucky wants to come over here where the motto is "The Team, The Team, The Team" to get away from tsopio's saying, "It's me, it's me, it's me", can you really blame him? I do have a question for you though, If TP is not eligible to play this season at your school, how can the other 5 guys be approved to return after 5 games? Yeah, you guys just keep making up the rules as you go along. TiM Go Blue!

If Tressel was suspect as you say he was when he arrived, his entire tenure is suspect. Maurice Clarrett? Troy Smith? Who knows how many others? It has been nearly 10 years since O-Lie-O State won a football game w/o cheating. Arrogance is not trying to pump up one's program, which is what Hoke has been doing, after the worst three years in the program's history. Arrogance is KNOWING that one's program has been cheating for a decade and to think that it would have won without the cheaters. Apparently the former head coach of O-Lie-O State didn't think so, else he would not have cheated in the first place. Good Night and Good Luck

"Bucky" here. I opposed hiring Tressel because of his attitude that winning games was more important than ethical behavior. He exhibited this trait already at Youngstown State. In my mind it was just a matter of time before he brought shame upon the OSU football program and the university. I would have thought he would be exposed earlier than he was. The players who beat UM during Tressel's tenure deserve the wins because it took the whole team effort. Those five + OSU players who discarded their UM game awards and mementos don't deserve to be on the team. IF TP had not play in the UM games, I believe OSU would still have beaten UM. Your Brady Hoke seem very arrogant to me. Such arrogance often denotes inner lack of confidence. We will have to see how UM and Hoke recovers from the MS drubbing before a real assessment can be made as to the quality of the UM coach.

Blu: Not to defend Bucky, but TP was suspended for the entire season because he was not cooperating with the investigation. I presume the others are though, given O-Lie-O State's casual relationship with something that resembles the truth, that might not be the case. Good Night and Good Luck

Poor Buckeye Fans, they need to come to our sites to razz us because they have nothing better to do. Worry about your own team, it's gonna get ugly for you cheatin' hearted people over there. Like I've said before, your ten year run of cheating is over! So don't come over here being all cocky, you're cheaters, many of your players should never have seen the field of play. Important players who led you to cheatin' victories, you shouldn't be cocky. GO BLUE!

I agree with heartbreak somewhat....however, this isn't like painting advertising on the stadium. I have been down that tunnel and it is dark and dreary. It doesn't reflect any positive, just the end view of the stadium crowd. I think something like this could be great, maybe one side of the tunnel walls inspiration traditional and the other side of the tunnel walls championships - as heartbreak suggests. His note on the 'Intimidation for opposing players' is a great idea. MgoBlueForTim....come to my House but be frightened, very frightened....

Maybe I'm just too traditional, but I think painting it on the wall is just sort of overkill. If you live it, if you preach it, if you practice it, do you actually have to paint it? To me, the only things that should be painted are years of championships won. That would make a great legacy to see each time the team comes through (and intimidating perhaps to opponents)

(He was also cheated out of a couple Crystals by crooked western and southern refs). In "Coach and Four" there is a picture of the phantom TD in the 1979 Rose Bowl, where Charles White clearly is short of the goal line and the ball clearly out of his grasp. There is a referee staring right at White and at the ball. Bo has signed the photo, circled the ref, and wrote: "What is he looking at?" Who was the ref? Big Ten (and later NFL) ref Jerry Markbreit. So, at least in that case, it was not western and southern refs who made the wrong call). Good Night and Good Luck
