Video: Michigan Marching Band's 'Wizard of Oz' was a hit

By AnnArbor.com Staff

The Michigan Marching Band drew loud cheers Saturday at halftime of the Illinois at Michigan football game with a routine inspired by the "Wizard of Oz" movie. The highlight: The script "Ohio" of Ohio State becoming "Oh no!"

What a great halftime show by a fabulous Michigan Marching Band. I am from Ohio and I love the Michigan band. This is one of their best shows since Eric Becker was the director of the band. All these thin-skinned OSU fans can really shell it out by certainly can't take it. I am embarrassed for them when they boo the Michigan band from start to finish in Columbus. OSU has a great band but not better than the Michigan band.

First of all there is nothing like the incomparible Script OHIO done by the best damn band in the land. The Michigan marching band spelled Ohio once in honor of our great state and you guys think it was the Script Ohio! In regards to the overall record lets talk about what have you done for me lately. The vest owns you and this year will be another beat down in the shoe! It's not even a rivalry anymore aside from the little pregame jump around banter that makes the Michigan players feel like they have a chance. I'll end with a question....What do you call a football player in Michigan who has talent? A. An Ohio product Go Bucks!!!

@The OSU: I don't know what's offensive about this show. It's just a cute little way to poke fun at other schools in the Big Ten. @OSUMBAlum: Be that as it may, the OSUMB still got the idea from the MMB. @OSUbebetter: You know it says something when you cling to our losses from two years ago. You think we'd lose to Toledo today with the power offense we've got? I don't think so. Just beat a pretty good Illinois team despite 5 turnovers and an injured starting quarterback. Scored almost as many points against a great defense as you guys scored on Purdue, or EMU if you count the OTs. There's no denying: our offense is young and makes mistakes, but is capable of running up the scoreboard like nobody's business against great defenses. Our defense is young and sucks. But they only let 14 points against THEEEEE OSU last year, didn't they? Lost that one on turnovers alone. It might not be this year, but you can trust that your winning streak has almost run its course.

Isnt michigans record against ohio state 57 -43. I would say you have a few more years to have a winning record against ohio state.

Ooh man, You guys cant beat The OHIO State (Or Toledo for that matter) in football, but you sure can make fun of us with your marching band. Hahahahaha, How weak!!! Next time you want to make fun of Ohio, Penn, Whisky, Iowa, or State, Why dont you let your football team handle it?

A couple observations... In no way has the U of M Band ever "performed" a Script Ohio. They "formed" an Ohio in a script font. Consider that if they HAD wasted 2+ minutes of their show "performing" a Script Ohio, Michigan fans would have boo-ed them off the field long before they finished (and rightly so). BE THAT AS IT MAY, this performance is one of the finest shows that I have EVER seen, anywhere, anytime, any band. Wow! [I'd love to see this show in the 'shoe, but I don't see how they could cut it down for the road.] This is not the Michigan Band of the past. A real winning show!...and they did it without a single O.T.;-)

Fantastic, loved it start to finish! I think you SHOULD take it to Columbus. The OSU(cks) band needs a dose of reality...THEY ARE BORING! You can't do shows with cartoon themes and giant Fred Flintstone formations. IT IS BORING! They should all watch this (and any halftime show by the OU Marching 110) and see why the fans truly stay in their seats for halftime; you just never know what's going to happen. Unlike a OSU(cks) halftime; if you've seen them once in the past 30 years, they'll look the same (they may even do the same show from 30 years ago).

@the OSU.....your just pissed your band couldn't come up with something so great first. And best band in the land?!? False! Are you aware the MMB came up with the script Ohio for your band?

I loved the show! I remember back when the students created the show once a year. That was great also. (OSU) You can call your band anything you wish but someone else has to call you that and then it still may not be true. "Best band in the land?" What island is that?

@THE: offensive, in poor taste, and witless.

Clever. Offensive and in poor taste, but clever. You guys got the guts to bring this show on the road to the Horseshoe on Nov. 27th? Probably you're more content to play the role of the Cowardly Lion. Just remember... OSU Band = TBDBITL = The best d@mn band in the land!
