The national chain signed a lease to occupy the 35,000-square-foot former Linens ‘N Things space earlier this year, and construction on the building began May 2.
The new Dick’s store is located in the same complex as Kohl’s, Best Buy and a former Borders store. The store hours are 9:30 am to 9:30 pm Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Prior to opening, contractors completed extensive renovations, including gutting the inside and expanding the building’s footprint by 7,000 square feet with an exterior addition.
"The remodel looks great," said Tom Goldberg, an owner of the Waters Place Shopping Center. "We expect a very strong opening."
The store also submitted a request to the Pittsfield Township Planning Commission to carry and sell firearms in September.
The chain spent years deciding on its first Washtenaw County location, coming close to building a store on Briarwood Circle in 2006 and a different site on Lohr Road in 2007.
Goldberg said the former Linens ‘N Things space made the most fiscal sense for the sporting goods store.
Dick’s, based in Corapolis, Penn., employs about 10,200 workers at more than 400 stores in 40 states, according to filings.
