LaFontaine confirms purchase of Mack Buick GMC dealership in Ann Arbor

By AnnArbor.com Staff

The LaFontaine Automotive Group has confirmed its plans to purchase the Mack Buick GMC dealership on Auto Mall Drive in Ann Arbor sometime early next year.

Matt LaFontaine, general manager of the LaFontaine dealership network, said the deal is expected to close in early 2012, and more details would be announced later.

"On behalf of the LaFontaine Auto Group, we are excited that we're going to be in the Ann Arbor Area with an additional store,'' LaFontaine said. He declined to discuss further details of the purchase.

The LaFontaine group first announced the deal on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

LaFontaine operates dealerships in eight locations, including the Chevrolet dealership in Dexter and a Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership in Saline.

Mack Johnson bought the former Jim Bradley Pontiac Buick GMC dealership in 2010 and moved it to the location of his former Saturn dealership, after General Motors discontinued the Saturn brand.

The family deal is coming back to town. The Lafontaines used to own Arbor Dodge on Washtenaw, west of Paeasanos. Also, Gordy LaFontaine owns the Pines Golf Course up in Houghton Lake, stop in and play a round some time. Great family.

When Mack bought Jim Bradley, we were inundated with phone calls and emails. I hope that LaFontaine does NOT do the same!

So will I get better or worse service now? Will they still continue to "fix" Saturn vehicles?

This will leave Howard Cooper Import Center and Dunning Toyota/Subaru as the last locally-owned dealerships in Ann Arbor.
