Becton, Dickinson and Company's acquisition of the Ann Arbor-based biotech company complete. The $275 million deal will preserve HandyLab’s local presence, officials said. The assay-manufacturing company, a University of Michigan spinoff, employs 60 in Pittsfield Township.

Fall: Washtenaw County Road Commission
The agency that oversees county road projects is just the latest to feel the budget pinch, and it’s significant: A 25 percent cut in 2010. Spending on road projects will fall from $25 million to about $11.5 million. The county ranks fourth-worst in the state for pavement condition.
