I am happy to see lots of book I have admired on the list this week.
Erin and Philip Stead's "A Sick Day for Amos McGee," this year's Caldecott winner is deservedly high on the list. If you have not read it yet, you are missing a truly lovely combination of story and illustration. The author and illustrator live here in Ann Arbor, and have been very busy since winning the award.

Brad Meltzer is a U of M grad and dropped by the store to sign copies of "Inner Circle" last week. We have our own Ann Arbor counterpoint to "Tiger Mother" in Kerry Novick's book "Emotional Muscle." Filled with examples from Allen Creek School, the authors offer practical and sensitive ways to develop emotional reslilience in both parents and children.

I enjoyed Susan Vreeland's new book about Clara Driscoll's role in the Tiffany workshops. Clara's letters came to light recently, and this novel draws on the content of those letters and elevates the importance of women in the glass workshops of the Tiffany company.
