Bob Seger announces new Silver Bullet Band tour; coming to Grand Rapids, Toledo

Although his last couple tours have widely been considered to be "this may be the last one," the Ann Arbor-bred rock star Thursday announced a new spring tour with his Silver Bullet Band that will take him to Toledo (Feb. 27) and Grand Rapids (March 5), the closest announced dates to this area. A tour press release promises "More dates to be announced soon."
A fall 2011 tour brought Seger's long-awaited return to Washtenaw County with a successful show at the Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center.
Born in Detroit, Seger grew up in Ann Arbor and graduated from Ann Arbor (now Pioneer) High School before becoming an album-rock superstar. He now lives in Oakland County.
Tickets for the first dates of the tour go on sale Jan. 19, but early access is promised to fan club members; see www.bobseger.com for more information.

Oh how I wish they still did concerts at Crisler. I saw so many great acts there. Bob, what ever happened to those shows?

Having just worked a concession booth at Crisler, I was surprised at how lovely it is. The waterfall, marble bathrooms, large escalators, etc are quite striking. I wonder if the word is out? I very much enjoyed concerts like Whitney Houston and Frank Sinatra at The University of Illinois' Assembly Hall. The medium- sized venues strike a good balance between being accessible for people while allowing them to feel some connection to the performers.

This is something I've been meaning to look into. The short answer, I believe, is that other venues came along that were newer, had better technology, more amenities, etc., (like the Convocation Center) and were therefore more attractive to promoters. However, I've been wondering if the Crisler renovations might again make it appealing as a concert venue. Stay tuned.

"Down on the Street" came on in my car the other day and I had to turn it up all the way to 11. I thought to myself "damn, that's some quality Ann Arbor rock-n-roll". I love The Stooges!

The Stooges are continuing to tour this spring, too, but so far only overseas: http://www.iggyandthestoogesmusic.com/us/tour?previous_text=Earlier%20Events&start_text=July%2009%202013&end_text=July%2011%202013&is_event_page=yes&previous_text=Earlier%20Events&start_text=March%2023%202013&end_text=July%2004%202013&is_event_page=yes

You would think that Seger would do a show in Ann Arbor, especially is 'this may be the last one'. There are plenty of venues that he could perform at. It cracks me up when people say 'isn't it cool that Bob Seger is from Ann Arbor?" and I usually remind them that he forgot about A2, many years ago.

I asked if he thought a show at Michigan Stadium might be possible someday, and he said it would probably be too hard logistically. Didn't rule it out, though.

Bob Needham - Who's talking about Washtenaw County? I was talking about 'Ann Arbor'. Did he say anything about a show in "Ann Arbor", when you interviewed him?

For what it's worth, when I interviewed him before the EMU date in 2011, he did say his team made a special effort to include a Washtenaw County date on that tour.
