Gordon Gekko's still got it; Katy Perry pokes fun at 'Sesame Street'

Oliver Stone's "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" — a sequel to his famous 1987 movie, also starring Michael Douglas as Gordon Gekko — topped the box office over the weekend, the Los Angeles Times reports, while Ben Affleck's "The Town" continued to do well in its second week.

Other entertainment news of note online today:

TELEVISION

Katy Perry had some fun on "Saturday Night Live" about her recent canceled appearance on "Sesame Street." And in other Katy Perry news, the singer will guest star on "The Simpsons" in December. And in other "SNL" news, Delaware Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell was among the targets.

• A dancer from East Grand Rapids appears on tonight's episode of "Glee." And speaking of "Glee," John Stamos has a recurring role as a dentist starting tonight.

Dick Purtan sidekick "Big Al" will appear on Tuesday night's episode of "Detroit 1-8-7," the Detroit Free Press reports.

THEATER

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong will temporarily take a starring role in the Broadway musical "American Idiot," which is based on a Green Day album.

• Michigan Opera Theatre is trying to lure younger operagoers with lower ticket prices.

ART & EXHIBITS

• Mill Race Village in Northville will host an art show called "Ghoultide Gathering."

MUSIC

• In what feels more like a bid for publicity than any real bad feelings, MC Hammer is striking back at Jay-Z after a pretty mild lyrical shot.

• The Eastern Echo has a story about the "Pianos 'Round Town" project in Ypsilanti; watch for AnnArbor.com coverage later today.

• The Michigan Daily reviews the new album by Margot and the Nuclear So-and-So's, who recently played the Blind Pig.

• The local acoustic band Orpheum Bell has uploaded a new video of them performing live at The Ark:
