Vote for the best Ann Arbor area breakfast joint

By Jessica Webster

Angela Cesere |

People in Washtenaw County are passionate about their breakfasts. We asked you for your nominations for Ann Arbor's best breakfast joint, and boy did you let us know. The comments, emails, tweets and Facebook posts have all been compiled, and now it's time to put it to a vote.

Here's your chance to help your favorite bacon slinger and flapjack flipper earn the title of Best Breakfast Joint in Washtenaw County. Get your vote in, and tell all your friends. Voting ends on Tuesday, March 5, at

MLive statewide entertainment reporter John Gonzalez will be hitting the road March 11-15 to vist the top vote-getters in every market to determine Michigan's Best Breakfast Joint.

Because the intent is to find the best everyday breakfast joint, we have excluded restaurants that only serve breakfast a couple of days a week. Sadly, this means that reader favorites Selma Cafe and \aut\ bar are disqualified.

Jessica Webster leads the Food & Grocery section for Reach her at You also can follow her on Twitter or subscribe to's email newsletters.

to the person named frankshater...You are entitled to your opinion regarding Franks Restaurant, but the topic is to discuss the best breakfast place, not "lets bash a local small diner that has been around since 1969", You happen to be in the minority with your comments. Maybe I will visit your place of work and critique it, why don't you be big enough to post where that is since you have no problem bashing your neighbors...maybe will do a best of for that!

Wed, Mar 6, 2013 : 7:22 p.m.

darn, i missed the voting. not sure if it was nominated, but we often eat breakfast at the uptown coney island on jackson rd - among other things, their spinach and mushrooms are fresh (not frozen or canned), they will do egg-beaters or egg whites, great breakfast options for a reasonable price. family owned. don't have the homemade bread like angelo's and zingerman's - do miss that. for downtown A2, I am going with angelo's, as cliche as that is. I just wish the wait wasn't so long and it was a bit more comfortable. broken egg has terrible and rude service for below average food (have tried it several times, won't go back). cafe zola - good food but rude service, noisy and expensive. zingerman's - some things are tasty but heavy and expensive. we can definitely use another GOOD breakfast place downtown A2. my two cents.

Thanks to everyone who submitted nominations and voted for their favorite restaurant. As previously noted by Jessica we will be reconciling the submitted votes to remove invalid duplicates and posting the final results later this week. With that in mind, please understand that the ranking of the poll above may not reflect the actual final ranking.

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 7:06 p.m.

I'm going to go "Ann Arbor" on all of you and pick the obscure one that's not on the list - The Espresso Bar at 327 Braun Court - Terrific waffles and fried chicken and breakfast sandwich. Local ingredients, best espresso drinks, small business. They had a awesome Disco Brunch a couple of weeks ago with mirrorball and DJ. The only downside for many people - It's not an aging hippie place

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 6:49 p.m.

Village Kitchen would be way up in the polls, except many of their customers probably don't use computers, if you know what I mean. Great breakfasts and service. Helen, the owner, is super, and her staff is the best.

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 6:58 p.m.

Haha! Best comment yet, and soooo true! The VK Lounge (as we call it) Rocks!

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 6:12 p.m.

Nicks is my favorite by far: excellent food, great service, and cool atmosphere! The server Shelly is such a joy, she keeps us coming back a few times a week :) The best!!!! West Virginian with feta!!!

Audion Man

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 6:05 p.m.

I do not understand the affection for the Broken Egg- over Nick's... they, I believe, are owned by members of the same family- and many of the their menu items are very similar, if not identical, except Nick's is less crammed with people, easier to park at, doesn't require the waits that the Broken Egg does and the service is better. Same food, nicer atmosphere, better service... seems like a no-brainer to me. But maybe all the UM crap on the walls counts for some people...

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 4:33 p.m.

THIS JUST IN! Ann Arbor's favorite breakfast: HOT GARBAGE

Jessica Webster

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 4:21 p.m.

Hi all - we are aware that there has been some pretty significant fraudulent voting behavior, and are working to filter those votes out. Please continue to vote for your favorite breakfast restaurants and know that we will fix this. The correct voting tallies won't be available until after the close of voting.

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 2:44 p.m.

Seems some get votes as they need them 1000 in one hour this late in the voting

Jessica Webster

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 4:23 p.m.

Yep, there is clearly something going on there. We're working to filter out the fraudulent votes.

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 4:10 p.m.

No way man. Im SURE is held to the HIGHEST security standards. I mean, obviously, DUH. Hey, maybe thousands of people all just realized at the exact same time that grease soaked cheap garbage is their favorite breakfast... Hey, thats totally plausible, right?!?

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 1:08 p.m.

Something doesn't feel right

Rabid Wolverine

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 2:21 p.m.

I agree. Fleetwood just dramatically jumped into the lead without so much as one person posting anything...Well, there was one comment..

Doozer Fraggle

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 8:09 a.m.

OK. So. The clear winner is Angelo's. Angelo's is an Ann Arbor institution without compare. It's locally owned and everything about it screams Ann Arbor. The food is amazing. The locale is delightful. The family that owns it is amazing. Everything about Angelo's screams best breakfast in Ann Arbor. I am seriously disappointed they are not winning. Also, my daughter has a crush on one of the owner's kids.

Doozer Fraggle

Thu, Mar 21, 2013 : 2:31 a.m.

Yeah, Nick the oldest one. My daughter saw him working in December and couldn't talk about anything else for weeks. Lovely young man.

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 8:35 a.m.

Nick Vangelatos and coffee. That's all the world needs.

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 8:31 a.m.

That Nick is a handsome fellow.

Nick's Blows

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 8:24 a.m.

No. You cannot call him that. I call him that. He is a living Ken doll. Coolest, nicest, smartest guy in Ann Arbor. Your daughter has good taste. Now stop stealing my words, woman!

Doozer Fraggle

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 8:18 a.m.

Oh man! That owner's son is mighty handsome! Dreamboat personified! Such a smile! Such eyes! Swoon! The breakfast lord I call him.

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 12:24 a.m.

Anyone who does not select Broken Egg as the best breakfast place in Ann Arbor has probably not been there. ( I can't believe there is anyone who hasn't!) Broken Egg is an Ann Arbor landmark. I know people who visit A2 from all over the country who know of this wonderfully creative and unique restaurant. We have a real GEM in our city!!! The best in A2!!!!

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 7:46 a.m.

I've been there. Its awful.

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 1:54 a.m.

I have and it is pricey and I hate to say it, Big Sky is by far the best mom and pop restaurant in the area.

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 7:29 p.m.

I will never understand the hype over Broken Egg. I went there a number of times (at least 5-6), but haven't been in a couple years, mostly due to the terrible service at every one of those previous visits. I do not mind having to wait for a table. I do, however, mind that in none of those visits did I ever get my food inside 20-30 minutes after ordering. Sometimes it was cold. I also got eggs that were nearly solid when I asked for over-easy. Having waited so long, I did not dare send it back. I've also found the host and waitstaff to be cold and uncaring. Maybe things have changed since I was last there, but there are enough good breakfast places in this area that I have no need to give Broken Egg another chance at my business.

Wed, Mar 6, 2013 : 4:24 p.m.

@a2miguy.. I don't understand why you went there "(at least 5-6)" times if you had a bad experience on your first visit. And here you are posting negative things about The Broken Egg in which you had complete control on where to go for breakfast on your second visit. There are a lot of restaurants listed on here that I have tried(ie.. an establishment where you have to wear a HAZMAT suit to use the WC) and I would never go to again but I don't go about writing negative comments on that establishment (in which I've only been there once). For me if I had a bad experience on my first visit, then I would never go there again unlike you 5-6 times. I LOVE "THE BROKEN EGG", I still go there after 13 years living in A2 from Los Angeles, CA. I love their selections and Carol is AWESOME and so are the ENTIRE WAIT STAFF.

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 7:46 p.m.

@g. lipps - I was being truthful, not nasty. When I posted the comments, Broken Egg was in the lead in this poll. I simply did a little lobbying (and unlike politicians, my comments were 100% true). It seems to have worked, and as you can see, others share my opinion and did so in nastier fashion than I did.

g. lipps

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 2:27 p.m.

this is a contest of who likes which restaurant. Lets not get nasty

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 3:49 p.m.

The Broken Egg is the BEST!!!. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of good places nominated but the Broken Egg is a step above the rest in my opinion. I've never left there hungry or unhappy. Great food, Great service.

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 2:49 p.m.

Frank's is disgusting. We kept hearing about how awesome it was, and we work right across the street, so we went one morning--all of us felt sick for the rest of the day. We joked about gaming this poll to get Frank's to #1, but we're not sociopaths. Also, Afternoon Delight is generally disgusting.

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 1:18 a.m.

I find it odd that the Broken Egg has so many votes, yet so few positive comments. I'm not taking anything away from the Broken Egg; I've never eaten there. Usually, however when people are so enthusiastic about a restaurant, they leave many more favorable comments about the place than the Broken Egg seems to have received. At this point, the Broken Egg has received nearly 1 out of every 5 votes in the poll but has only been mentioned in one out of every 25 comments. For me, that makes the voting in this poll highly suspect.

Wed, Mar 6, 2013 : 4:35 p.m.

@YspiLivin.. Some of us where we think is a GREAT PLACE TO EAT does not necessarily post any comment but do spread it by word of mouth to friends and colleagues. I found out about THE BROKEN EGG from a UofM Student who happened to be on my flight from Los Angeles, CA to DTW. He recommended The Broken Egg to me 13 YEARS AGO and I am still going there.. There are so many restaurants that I LOVE AND DISLIKE here in ANN ARBOR but I don't post any comment either on their website or anywhere else. I just spread it by word of mouth.

g. lipps

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 2 p.m.

You did not mention who you are voting for..just that your not happy about no comments on the broken EGG ...there are only 100 comments to 7600the Votes

Sun, Mar 3, 2013 : 4:22 p.m.

Any place that doesn't serve real maple syrup shouldn't be considered for this list. The Broken Egg is one of them.

g. lipps

Wed, Mar 13, 2013 : 3:58 a.m.

Angelo 'S CHARGES FOR MAPLE SYRUP SODOES ZOLA's and everyone who servees maple syrups charges extra.........hopfullly they make cakes From s cscratch daily...fresh fruit a must have...freshveggies no brainner

Sun, Mar 3, 2013 : 7:13 p.m.

Because of the price? You have to ask for it.

Sun, Mar 3, 2013 : 4:20 p.m.

If I remember correctly, the initial asking was for the Best Breakfast in Washtenaw County. Now youo have limited it to the Ann Arbor Area. What happened to Kathy's Diner on M52 just south of Chelsea at the Stockyards. HAs anyone ever tried this great diner? Zingermans is a great place for other types of food, but come on, Breakfast, really. Basic breakfast food should be the only consideration or you must spell out the rules!! Really thinnk you would be more than pleased with Kathy diner! As little mikie used to say on TV, Try it , uyou'll like it!!

Sun, Mar 3, 2013 : 4:24 p.m.

You should try the breakfast BLT at Zingerman's Deli. Deelicious.

Sun, Mar 3, 2013 : 5:39 a.m. If you have a poll with 37 separate selections, it would be better form to have the poll results display in descending order of # of votes....

Fred Pettit

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 7:11 p.m.

Anyone have any recommendations for Abe's Coney Island in Ypsi. I go by there a couple days a week and looks interesting. What's good there and a gotta try it recommendation.

Sun, Mar 3, 2013 : 7:12 p.m.

Never did the breakfast, but the gyros are to die for with a bit on the over cooked fries to go. Yum!

Lets Get Real

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 7:08 p.m.

Eliminating places? Selma is great and has a purpose beyond the food and fellowship. However, many of the best breakfasts in Ann Arbor are prepared by the bed and breakfast owners! Had the priviledge of eating with a consultant who stayed at Davies House Inn and the fruit, yogurt, and granola parfaits and the hazelnut French toast were awesome. On another morning, he said he had a breakfast burrito stuffed with scrambled eggs & smoked salmon and topped with tomatoes roasted in balsamic vinegar. We're missing the boat if we are not recommending locally owned places for our Ann Arbor visitors,

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 8:43 p.m.

My mom makes a mean pancake and porkie breakfast. You think she should be in the poll too?

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 8:03 p.m.

B&B's are NOT restaurants/

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 5:34 p.m.

Big Sky. Hands down. Best little mom and pop shop at the tail end of Ypsilanti on Ecorse. Don't knock it until you try it.

Sun, Mar 3, 2013 : 7:11 p.m.

I hope that guy is reading these comments, because if he goes by votes? We get to keep our best kept secret of Ypsilanti. Anyone hungry for breakfast?

Sun, Mar 3, 2013 : 6:44 p.m.

Agree totally. A huge omelette for 5.99, can't beat the price for the quantity of food.

Sun, Mar 3, 2013 : 4:09 p.m.

At a great price too. big meal for 3 bucks.. You can take your family and not go broke. It has a huge breakfast crowd..and a lot of seating.

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 9:04 p.m.

Agreed. Love that place, and no one seems to know about it!

David Cahill

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 4:32 p.m.

Northside Grill does it for me. I'm glad it's tied for second place, and within striking distance of first place. All you Northside Grillers, get those votes in!

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 10:16 p.m.

Been there. Voted for the Bomber.

Fred Pettit

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 7:09 p.m.

We'll talk about this one David.

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 3:47 p.m.

Went to Nick's this morning. Was not impressed. For a family of 4 cost over 42.00 before tip. Way to expensive for what you get.

Rabid Wolverine

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 9:18 p.m.

Fair enough. I went on Sunday. My bill was $11 including tip so that'd get you to the total you were saying.

Sun, Mar 3, 2013 : 6:43 p.m.

Any omelette on the menu and a coffee is over 10.00. Any order of pancakes at 5.99 and a side order of any meat is another 3.29. Now add drink to that oder and you are over 10.00 again. A family of 4 is easily over 40.00.

Rabid Wolverine

Sun, Mar 3, 2013 : 6:03 a.m.

What te heck did you order. My wife and I get out for under $20 every time

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 8:02 p.m.

too, not "to".

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 3:21 p.m.

i found nick's to be fine for food but after 3 times i decided they do not like solo diner.... all three times i was seated at probably the worst table and was told nothing better, forgotten about by servers, etc. also zola has not treated solo diner well either plus their lousy service

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 2:12 p.m.

Locally-Sourced, Tasty & Affordable? Simple. Honest. Food. BEEZY'S CAFE <3!

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 1:56 p.m.

I read the headline and was expecting a discussion of medical marijuana for breakfast. :-)

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 5:35 p.m.

If the eggs don't do it? The coffee will.Green eggs and ham anyone?

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 12:34 p.m.

Best breakfast food wise? Maybe Angelo's. Haven't been in many years (since I got the bill). Best breakfast "joint"? Definitely Northside for me! Thanks for the poll. (Maybe I'll even branch out a bit now :-)

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 3:36 a.m.

Lucas is my favorite. They have the best biscuits and gravy and their sausage is some darn tasty. The Bomber is my least favorite. Everything there is so greasy.

Tamara Craft Larson

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 1:15 a.m.

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 12:29 a.m.

It all depends... is it breakfast at 3 am, or is it breakfast at 9:30 am? I'm partial to the Fleetwood... at 3 am...

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 11:03 p.m.

Where is Linda's in Manchester? Best breakfast around and you can check out an aucton after you eat!

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 12:16 p.m.

Um.... in Manchester.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 10:55 p.m.

Glad to see Nick's on the list, hope it wins. Good food, friendly staff, and great service. The staff always recognize us. The pancakes are fantastic but their chicken and waffles are the best. Hands down.

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 10:06 a.m.

Is there any other place in Washtenaw County that even offers chicken and waffles?

Pamela Bethune

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 10:48 p.m.

Broken Egg

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 10:18 p.m.

The Songbird Cafe is a wonderful new restaurant on Plymouth Road that has delicious quiche, pastries, and yummy oatmeal; excellent selection of teas and coffee; pleasnt ambience. It defiinitely should be added to your list.

Aaron Mercer

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 9:52 p.m.

No Selma? Super lame.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 9:20 p.m.

No Cloverleaf???

Jessica Webster

Tue, Mar 5, 2013 : 5:32 p.m.

Our poll was entirely made up of reader suggestions.

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 3:15 p.m.

word :) They found the Fleetwood and Afternoon Delight, but can't find the Cloverleaf right there between them.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 8:59 p.m.

I'm going to put all these places on a list and make a plan to try every place.

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 5:36 p.m.

I have eaten at many of these places. Yes, some are good and some are pricey. But if you want a great meal at a great price? Big Sky hands down.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 8:52 p.m.

i currently live over here In Chippewa Falls Wisconsin, but when we head back home we go back to Marks Midtown Coney Island on State Street, hello Mark Caulwell and crew -- GREAT BREAKFAST !!

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 8:51 p.m.

Nick's really? Been there several times and its just a glorified "Big Boy" (no offense to Big Boy).

Pete Cunningham

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 11:20 a.m.

Them's fightin' words Soothslayer...Just joking, to each his own. I love Nick's. Curious, why does the 8-foot ceramic statue get a "no offense" but fine folks at Nick's don't?

g. lipps

Sun, Mar 3, 2013 : 1:20 a.m.

I think Nick's is excellent , service and coffee.....

Jojo B

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 8:49 p.m.

Who the heck is downloading so many of the benign "I like this place" comments? Are we that insecure that whenever somebody mentions a restaurant that we don't happen to know or like, we have to give them the thumbs down?

Jay Thomas

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 8:23 p.m.

I'm hungry just looking at the picture.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 8:19 p.m.

A lot of great places there, many of which I haven't tried yet. I wish I could vote for more than one; at the very least Angelo's, Nick's, and Broken Egg would be in the running.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 8:10 p.m.

Wait minute - where's SELMA?

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 2:33 p.m.

SELMA is not a restaurant, it is a persons house.

Kyle Mattson

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 9:38 p.m.

Hi kk, read the note below the poll.

you can't handle the truth

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 7:10 p.m.

I would say Fleetwood if it wasn't always filled up with bums.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 10:52 p.m.

Haven't been there for a long time, but on the last visit, there were plenty of bums. I guess nothing has changed.

Jojo B

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 8:50 p.m.

Working there or dining there? HAR HAR.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 7:16 p.m.

But that's kinda part of the charm of the place....

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 6:42 p.m.

Mark's Midtown. The one on Plymouth by US 23. Most servers and staff have been there for over 10 years. Think about how well Mark must treat his employees. Plus, the chicken lemon-rice soup is the best in town!

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 6:58 p.m.

So am I the only one who calls it avgolemano soup?

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 5:55 p.m.

should separate it ann arbor, and ypsi

Kyle Mattson

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 6:32 p.m.

We actually considered something along those lines S2W, but there was no even way to split that, plus Gonzo will only be visiting a few destination on his visit, so we thought it was only fair to make it a level playing field.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 5:14 p.m.

Man, you keep reminding me how much I miss Charlie's Country Squire. Best hash browns evaa!

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 5 p.m.

Northside! Great food. Great staff.

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 7:58 p.m.

Absolutely true.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 10:51 p.m.

I wish Northside lived up to its rep. My wife and I tried it a couple times and were disappointed with dry scrambled eggs and undercooked potatoes. We didn't have good service on either visit. We may go back, but are not impressed so far. There are so many great breakfast places in the area. We love Angelo's and Broken Egg. Consistently excellent and great portions!

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 4:44 p.m.

I would rather vote on who has the best joint in Ann Arbor..and then go eat breakfast.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 4:21 p.m.

Nicks house of pancakes, is absolutely amazing! Huge portions, and zero calories! I've never had a bad experience there the girls are great! and the good tastes great!

Rabid Wolverine

Sun, Mar 3, 2013 : 5:59 a.m.

I'm no penny pincher but nicks is not pricey....

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 5:39 p.m.

A bit pricey, but yes, good food. But not a good favorite of mine.

Jason S.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 3:54 p.m.

For my money, Nick's is the best. Great breakfast, high quality bacon and an unbelievable corned beef sandwich! The waitstaff are always nice and happy and you never know what celebrity you will see sitting in the booth next to you!

Michelle Pierson

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 3:22 p.m.

Known Nick since he was a teen, haven't seen him in a while, but know that his family works hard at their rest.'s, good food, they kept it here in A2! Thanks Pano's. We love the food!

Dr. Fate

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 3:10 p.m.

Definitely Nick's House of Pancakes for us. The check points in the poll are a little off-putting though. Hard to tell if you need to check the top circle or bottom circle unless you look at the ends of the list. Or maybe it's just my screen alignment?

Kyle Mattson

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 3:39 p.m.

Sorry about that Dr. Fate. It's rare we have a poll this long, but we wanted to give all the nominated restaurants a shot at earning your vote.

Lynn Liston

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 3:06 p.m.

It's Nick's for me. While there are lots of places on the poll that I like, Nick's tops them all in terms of great food, great service and very good coffee.

Top Cat

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 2:31 p.m.

The Bomber is it for me but I am inspired to try Beezy's as soon as possible.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 8:59 p.m.

I like the Bomber but the wait staff could smile a little more.

Top Cat

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 6:11 p.m.

I had lunch there today and loved it!

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 5:20 p.m.

Definitely check out Beezy's. You'll be happy that you did!

Atticus F.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 2:23 p.m.

Don't say Angelo's... Thats so cliche.

Sat, Mar 2, 2013 : 7:57 p.m.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 1:55 p.m.

Pool is confusing - might be my computer, but the relationship of the buttons to what you are voting for is quite odd. The button is above the candidate, not next to or beneath it. (at least on my computer) This is roughly the electronic equivalent of a hanging chad.

Kyle Mattson

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 6:11 p.m.

We've updated the coding so the buttons should appear inline with the options.

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 1:55 p.m.

Rabid Wolverine

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 1:47 p.m.

Nick's...plain and simple is the best.

Pete Cunningham

Couldn't have said it better myself, Rabid. Nick's is amazing and the great staff -- the always-present Nick included -- is second to none.

If you a pancake freak, absolutely! Otherwise.... Meh...

I have yet to have anything mediocre there. All local fresh ingredients. Nick is there every time I have went and always remembers us. The pancakes are great as is the stuffed french toast. The skillets are filling and tasty. I haven't ever ordered any lunch type items though so there's that..

I'm seeing it up there next to Angelo's in the poll....but I've had several people go there and tell me it was nothing special at all. I'm still going to try it out myself...I'm just surprised at all the votes for the place after only hearing mediocre reviews of the place from friends and family. And I do oh so love pancakes...

I just voted for Achilles on Packard. It's out of the way, so I doubt it will win, but it deserves at least a bronze medal for its French Toast.

Darn, I wish I could get my vote back. I ate there for the first time about a month ago and it was great!

How I have I never heard of this place?! I need to check it out.

I agree. But for me, it's a toss up between Achilles and Village Kitchen.

Nice list selection...but I predict Angelo's will top it. It's can be a hater about it...but nearly EVERYTHING on their menu stands out as special or has NO equivalent in Ann Arbor. Big Breakfast is about the closest you can get to finding something similar to. Deep Fried French Toast....NOPE no one has awesome like this. Eggs Benedict......NO ONE has hollandaise like theirs.... Oh man I just got SOOOOOO hungry......

I do love that Dick Siegel song. I was just singing it last night as I was going over the poll choices. "Eggs over easy, hashed browns and you."

There sure is:

There's a song about Angelo's?

Fri, Mar 1, 2013 : 1:53 p.m.

I don't think Angelo's won last year. Just because somebody sang a song about your restaurant 40 years ago doesn't make it good. Maybe overpriced, but not good.

So many great places on that list ... it's hard to pick just one.

Yes, I would have picked about six on that list as favorites. :)

It's such an excellent problem to have, isn't it? The Ann Arbor area has amazing food options.
