Saturday's Michigan-Michigan State game kicks off at 3:30—a perfect time that will allow Spartan fans to explore Ann Arbor's culinary delights at both lunch and dinner times.

It's been two years since the last time the Spartans played in the Big House, and our restaurant scene has been enhanced during that time. In a post on Freep.com this morning, restaurant critic Sylvia Rector has a rundown of some of the restaurants that have opened since the last times these rivals met in Ann Arbor.

Among the standouts for her are Lena, Frita Batidos, Bill's Beer Garden, Mani Osteria, Chela's and the Raven's Club. You can read the full post here.

Where are you planning to eat before and after the Wolverines beat the Spartans on Saturday?

There are two great restaurants in Whitmore Lake, that are full of both U-M and MSU fans who really enjoy the rivalry w/o any real problems. That's the places to be!

Interesting that people are viciously attacking the Huron and Pioneer kids for their recent tussle yet come here to post childish suggestions mocking MSU. Let's keep in classy, Michigan.

I think they should just stand back, enjoy their win over UM, and watch the Wolverines eat crow.

What is the purpose of this article? Ann Arbor has dozens of restaurants that have been serving this community for decades. Instead of promoting them, you want to promote the new guys. I guess there is no more loyalty around here, maybe that is why people don't advertise in your publication which as a result was the end of the Ann Arbor News.

The purpose is to feature good food. I think that it is interesting to see how new restaurants have changed the culinary layout of Ann Arbor - so many of the older places serve sloppy bad food with little imagination. Many on Main have fallen into tired patterns with mass production and little attention to details. Maybe the new kids will inspire them to improve. The problem is that they are driven too much by the bottom line while being squeezed by high rents.

Hi Skiboski! If you click through to the original Free Press article I'm aggregating here, you will see that Sylvia Rector mentions longtime favorites like Krazy Jim's, Gratzi, Tios and Cottage Inn. The point of her article is to point out the restaurants that have opened since the last time Michigan State's football team played in Ann Arbor. Thanks!

Maybe MSU fans are already aware of the restaurants that were open last time they were here 2 years ago.
