Help local author Virginia Newell celebrate the publication of her memoir 'Season to Taste'

By Nicola Rooney

In Virginia Newell's experience it takes 49 years, with a lot of help from the Washtenaw Literacy World in a Basket Auction, Edwards Brothers and her writing group.

Local resident Virginia Newell is so happy she has completed and published the book about her life she began planning in 1961. The main impetus came this time last year, when Virginia attended the Washtenaw Literacy World in a Basket Fundraising Auction and was the successful bidder for a basket that included getting your own book printed and published by Edwards Brothers.

As she says in the book “...this book is being written for me. I will be overjoyed if, in addition, it finds readers among my family, friends, and even others I don't know personally.” With anecdotes, poems, recipes and some history, I suspect there could be many others who will take inspiration from Virginia and try their hands at writing.

Come and help Virginia Newell celebrate the publication of her memoir, "Season to Taste," on Sunday, Nov. 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Nicola's Books. Well known in the catering business in Ann Arbor, Virginia also shares her love of northern Michigan, and other things important to her. Tasty tidbits will be provided.
