Then, in another local connection, Ann Arbor native Mayer Hawthorne enlisted Rolling Stone's help to pitch himself as an alternative choice.
The NFL didn't budge, and Nickelback is set to play on Thursday. But the band has found some room to laugh at the whole situation with a video on the comedy website FunnyOrDie.com.
