For the second time in two years, WEMU’s music director and morning jazz host Linda Yohn was named National Jazz Programmer of the Year in Markets 1-25 by Jazz Week Magazine on June 19, in Rochester, New York.

JazzWeek is considered to be the definitive jazz and smooth jazz national radio airplay chart — a weekly report of the top 50 jazz and smooth jazz recordings played on radio stations across the United States and Canada. Its mission is to strengthen the jazz and smooth jazz radio formats, and to improve the connections between radio stations, record labels (large and small), and retailers.

WEMU is the public-radio station at Eastern Michigan University. Jenn McKee is the entertainment digital journalist for AnnArbor.com. Reach her at jennmckee@annarbor.com or 734-623-2546, and follow her on Twitter @jennmckee.

This is great recognition for Linda! She is an absolute gem for her listening audience, along with the astoundingly creative and knowledgeable staff (not to mention hard-working!). We need to support Linda and WEMU to keep this good stuff going.
