The winner of our 2010 Deck the House Virtual Showcase had a special reason to make her home beautiful this year.

When she submitted the photos, Samantha Towler of Ypslianti wrote: "These Christmas decorations were done before my granddaughter goes into the hospital Dec. 21 for a bone marrow transplant. She was diagnosed with leukemia two weeks ago."

Towler submitted photos of her indoor and outdoor decorations. She has life-size Santas dispersed around her home and festive garlands on the hearth and railings.

In early December, we asked readers to share photos of their holiday decorations, and we posted them in our online Home & Garden section. The week of Dec. 21, readers voted on their favorites in a poll.

The poll garnered nearly 1,300 votes, with 51 percent voting for Towler's outdoor decorations, and 31 percent voting for her indoor decorations.

In second place with 38 percent was Ypsilanti resident Randy Hall's outdoor decorations, which featured a virtual Santa in a large picture window.

Photos of Towler's and Hall's homes will be featured in an upcoming story in the print edition of AnnArbor.com.
