Ann Arbor man pleads guilty to sexually assaulting 10-year-old child

By Art Aisner

An Ann Arbor man pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a child he babysat for earlier this year.

Court records show Aldarryllian Gordon, 34, pleaded guilty to an added count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct during a pre-trial hearing in Washtenaw County Circuit Court.

Prosecutors agreed to drop the initial charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim under the age of 13 at Gordon’s Oct. 12 sentencing.

Detectives arrested him at his home on Hikone Drive on June 8, shortly after the 10-year-old victim disclosed the abuse to authorities. Investigators with the Washtenaw Child Advocacy Center interviewed the boy and were able to determine the assault happened when Gordon babysat him in June, court records show.

A sentencing agreement with Circuit Judge Donald Shelton is in place, but further details were not immediately available. Gordon remains at the Washtenaw County Jail on $200,000 bond.

Michigan at on time got enough signature too put that on the ballots about thirty years ago. And the people of the State voted it down. Capital Punishment: Now just and think of what it takes a tax payer too pay a gurard and house all the prisoner until death. I know a few in Huron Valley that told the Judge they did the crime. LIFE

If this type of thing happened in my neighborhood when we were young, the adults would have handled this guy. Now we can rely on rehabilitation to serve this poor sole. He probably didn't get enough hugs when he was young. Can't wait for the psychiatric report to tell us how he was abused when he was young. There is only one real way to break that cycle.

Hikone has had more than it's fair share of criminals in the past... as small as it is. "Affordable housing" can be more of a curse than a blessing.

OnlyTruth, Michigan cannot "bring back" the death penalty. As a state, Michigan has never had the death penalty. Only six states allowed the death penalty for crimes other than murder. All of them involved second sexual offenses against children. Only one state actually sentenced under these laws (Louisiana - two separate cases). The Supreme Court ruled that application of the death penalty to be unconstitutional in Kennedy v. Louisiana in 2008, saying "There is a distinction between intentional first-degree murder on the one hand and nonhomicide crimes against individual persons." Federal law permits the death penalty in cases of espionage, treason and mailing injurious objects that are designed to cause death. All other permissible federal applications of the death penalty involve murder.

Wow, so many layers to this story an we get 7 sentences in 5 paragraphs. This reminds me of square dancing with more emphasis on the response than the call.

Just curious, for the former inmate that robbed the pizza joint, his name was not published in the paper. For a story that involves someone that has a pre-trial plea, his name is published (I'm assuming he has not gone before a judge). What are your guidelines here? If it turns out the man is actually innocent, what then? How do you find all of the feathers blown in the wind?

Chuck Norris: What a sad way to express your anger at society. How about making a comment relevant to the article? I'm not so much concerned with the criminal here as with the little boy who was abused. I'd rather have my tax dollars spent on helping him. Jail time or rehabilitation for the criminal? Certainly jail time. Who knows if he can be rehabilitated. I have my doubts.
