The city of Ann Arbor has canceled residential trash and recycling pick-ups for Wednesday in anticipation of the snowstorm expected to hit on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The city has decided to postpone its normal Wednesday routes until Thursday. The rest of the week's routes will also be delayed by one day, with Thursday routes being collected on Friday, and so on.

Residents are asked to place their trash and recycling bins at the curb after streets have been plowed — before 7 a.m. on Thursday.

Officials are predicting 10-15 inches of snow will hit the Ann Arbor area between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday.

City officials are also asking residents to find alternatives to on-street parking from Tuesday afternoon until Friday afternoon to allow snow plows the maximum access to clear the streets.

Residents are encouraged to check the city’s website to see the status of the street cleaning by neighborhood. Interested residents may also sign up for free e-mail notification of the street plowing locations by clicking on the red envelope on the site.

I depend on trash pickup trucks to open a path through deep snow on my street. Now what shall I do?

uaw, I haven't seen a snowplow in my neighborhood this winter either. I do have to give the city kudos for thinking ahead and cancelling garbage and recycling pick ups on Wednesday.

I sure hope we get a lot after all the premature panic going on here.

I'm sure not parking on a residential street is not an option for 99% of drivers

Yeah, I was just pondering how that might be possible. Park in a neighbor's driveway? ;)

The city hasn't cleared the little snow we have received yet from the street parking areas that is north of miller and east of Brooks, what makes them think they can handle it now?? I think I'll contiue to park on top of snow plies as I have been doing until spring.

Already? By the time the storm gets here it could be only 4-6 inches the way things work out. Sometimes we get more media hype than snow.
