Ann Arbor's Wolverine State Brewing Co. opens rental hall for private parties

By Erica Hobbs

Ann Arbor’s Wolverine State Brewing Co. is now available for private parties. The brewery has opened The Gulo Room, a private rental hall within its building at 2019 West Stadium with a capacity for events of up to 70 people.

The space includes a private set of beer taps, bartenders and audio-visual capabilities.

“The room is set up to be a miniature room of the existing tap room, the same sort of feel,” co-owner E.T. Crowe said.

While the hall does not serve food, the space does have a staging area for caterers. Cost is $50 an hour to rent the space, plus the cost of beer.

Crowe said the room has hosted four parties since it opened Dec. 6 and space is booking up fast. She said the space can be set up as a cash bar or an open bar and is suitable for a range of events, including birthday parties, showers and office parties.

The Wolverine State Brewing Co. opened its doors in 2010 after establishing its flagship brand, Wolverine Premium Lager.

Believe it or not, parking is a problem here. I recently attended an event here, and the only parking was on the street several blocks away, or in the adjacent lot at the bike store. BIG SIGNS say no parking, even though they were not open at the time. How about a cooperative relationship that promotes one another's businesses? Yikes! Hate that territorial stuff. Odd entrance to the new room, but spacious and versitile once in there. Wish this business much success. Good concept, accommodating management, great beer, and woman owned.

This place has great beer and atmosphere. It had been one of the great things to happen to west stadium in the last 5 yrs or so. The beer, the unassuming staff, and its ally location reminds me of development you would see in San Fran, Seattle, or Portland, OR. More of this creative, high density, and back ally development is needed. It adds so much character to the area and business. Look at how much attention the ally on liberty near state st gets. Thanks for taking a chance on west stadium and letting people bring their own food. Cheers
