Campus police arrest man suspected of robbing University of Michigan student outside South Quad
University of Michigan police say tips they received after issuing a crime alert led to the arrest of a man suspected of robbing a student outside the South Quad residence hall Thursday just before noon.
The student was walking along the sidewalk next to the residence hall in the 600 block of East Madison Street when a man grabbed him at 11:45 a.m., according to the campus crime alert.
The stranger pulled the student several feet off the sidewalk and demanded money, the alert said. After the student gave up his cash, the robber ran westbound on Madison Street.
Police received numerous tips after issuing the crime alert Thursday evening, leading to the arrest of a suspect at about 11:35 p.m. near East Hoover and Greene streets in Ann Arbor, campus police said.
The 41-year-old Ann Arbor man was jailed to await formal charges and arraignment, police said.
No further details were immediately available this morning.

Second request - please correct "near Hoover and Green streets" to near E. Hoover and Greene streets" Greene has an "E" on the end of the street name the other Green Street is on the North side of the city not near E. Hoover. (note that Hoover is not Hoover it is E. Hoover)

At least I am reassured by the Mayor's assertion that the crime rate is falling.

Glad to hear they caught him also. Poor kid, I hate to see some young kid getting robbed and threatended. I'm sure it was a scary experience.

I lived in South Quad 5 years ago and it's hard for me to fathom this happening at noon during the school year. At least it seems they caught him quickly enough.

Wow, times have changed! Having lived in South Quad over four decades ago when it was fairly new, I cannot recall even imagining something like this robbery occurring in front of the residence back then, especially in the light of daytime.

Crazy. He has to be to pull this stunt off in the middle of the day in front of SQ. I bet he uses the "panhandling defense".
