City Administrator Roger Fraser to talk about city income tax on TV

By Ryan J. Stanton

As Ann Arbor officials and residents continue to debate the merits of implementing a city income tax, City Administrator Roger Fraser will explain the effect it would have on the city's budget on the next "Conversations" on CitiTV 19.

The discussion is moderated by Jim Blow. The program premieres at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the city's Web site.

Fraser has said a city income tax, at the levels the city is considering, could raise $7.6 million a year in additional revenue for the city. The City Council recently decided to hold off on putting an income tax proposal on the November ballot but is considering going to voters in February or May, the next two election cycles.

The measure, if enacted, would tax residents and businesses at a rate of 1 percent, and non-residents at a rate of 0.5 percent.

Here's a video AnnArbor.com shot a few weeks back of Fraser talking about the income tax proposal with City Council members:

If they impose a city income tax I will move my business across the street which is outside the city limits and they can kiss goodbye the $40,000. a year they charge me for property and personal property taxes!!! simple as that!!!

Roger Fraser lives in Webster Twp!!! 0.5% on non residents......better put up toll booths at each enterence into this city so that every tom, dick and harry are charged the equal amount of money. Come on Ann Arbor, wake up and see what your elected officials are doing! Oversized and overpriced City Hall expansion, an overpriced underground parking structure, layoffs to police and fire.....yet Roger Fraser and City Attorney already have received their yearly bonuses. Time for leadership change!

Is the City Administrator still living in a Township? Hope he's planning to move into the City if the income tax is enacted.
