Ann Arbor resident John Dent, 50, was among the crew rescued this week from a sailboat that capsized during the Chicago-to-Mackinac race, killing 2 team members, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The U.S. Coast Guard released the names of the saved crewmembers of the boat WingNuts. They are: John Dent, 16-year-old Christopher "C.J." Cummings of Grandville, 51-year-old Stan Dent of Midland, 46-year-old Lee Purcell of Chicago, 15-year-old Stuart Morley and his father, 47-year-old Peter Morley, from Midland.

Mark Morley, Peter Morley's 51-year-old brother, and 40-year-old Suzanne Bickel, both of Saginaw, died in the incident.

I was not on the water (thankfully), but I was in the Cheboygan area when the storm hit. It was intense and prolonged, with lots of lightning, rain and wind. I cannot imagine being on the water in something like that. My sympathy to the families of the lost crew members.

I saw the radar of that vicious storm going across Lake Michigan and I thought to myself 'hope no one is out there in a small craft'
