Two men have been interviewed in connection to Tuesday's shooting at this apartment on Bedford Drive.

Sgt. Geoffrey Fox said the two men were taken into custody on the other warrants Wednesday.

That's when they were questioned about the shooting, which took place at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of Bedford Drive.

The men are not suspects in the shooting, Fox said. He added that deputies do not have anyone in custody who is accused of taking part in the shooting, Fox said.

“We have two people in custody that we brought in to interview regarding the shooting,” Fox said. “They are being held on unrelated warrants and have not been deemed suspects at this point.”

An Ypsilanti Township man in his early 30s was shot in the knee in the Huron Ridge Apartments near Clark and Leforge. His friend, a 31-year-old Ypsilanti Township man, was struck by a car soon after the shooting.

"He ran out into the roadway to flag someone down," Fox said. "It was a freak accident."

The 31-year-old man suffered injuries to his abdominal region, but still managed to drive his friend with the gunshot wound to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. After dropping him off, the 31-year-old man went to an apartment complex on Chestnut Drive where he was intercepted by police who called Huron Valley Ambulance personnel to pick him up and take him back to the hospital.

Neither men officially lived at the apartment on Bedford Drive, but did have a close contact with people who did, Fox said.

"One of the victims (the man who was shot) had a relationship with the lease holder of that apartment," Fox added.

Two other men were seen leaving the area on foot following the incident. They were described as black with short hair and thin builds. Both were reportedly wearing T-shirts and blue jeans at the time of the incident. K-9 units from the sheriff’s office searched the woods behind the apartment building after the shooting Tuesday.

Sheriff’s office officials told AnnArbor.com the victims in the shooting have been interviewed, but they haven’t told investigators much about the incident.

Investigators executed a search warrant on the day of the shooting, Fox said. The results of the search were not immediately clear.

The two victims are in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.

The motive for the shooting is still not clear and deputies continue to investigate the case. Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at 734-973-7711.

Strange that 2 individuals, who are in no way suspected in the shootings and would be wanted and jailed, would be found living in that area...
