Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies are investigating a bank robbery reported this morning at Citizens Bank at 3075 Washtenaw Avenue in Ypsilanti Township, sheriff's department spokesman Derrick Jackson said.

A robber entered the bank, displayed a handgun and demanded money, Jackson said in an emailed release. The robber then left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money and fled on foot, Jackson said.

It marks the second time the bank has been robbed in five weeks. The bank also was robbed the morning of March 22

Anyone with information can call the sheriff's department's tip line at (734) 973-7711.

There is at least one security camera. Is there no shot of this man's face?

Well, since we don't have enough police anymore, this guy probably won't get caught.

They should have a system where they cannot enter banks with a hat or anything else that hides the face until they are scanned by cameras so they are recognized in a photo. ALL BANKS and financial services that have large sums of money on hand.Like PAY DAY ADVANCE does.

I wonder something about the annarbor.com caption writers, headline writers and, if there are any editors, them too. Since the news is published daily online and compiled into the twice-a-week, mostly-old-news print versions, wouldn't it make sense to give a date or a day of the week instead of labeling with words like, "today" and "this morning." It seems embarrassing to publish "this morning" in the caption on Wednesday when the incident seems to have happened on a former day. The "When" in news is important to me, especially when armed folks are in our neighborhoods. When I read at 6:30 a.m. that a bank was robbed "this morning," both my senses of immediate concern for our safety and incredulity are triggered. It seems like that bank was probably not open this morning, but my newspaper tells me this, "robber entered the bank, displayed a handgun and demanded money." Displayed to whom? Demanded of whom? a night watch person? Oh, now I get it. annarbor.com has sloppy editing practices. I shouldn't get alarmed when told something happened this morning. It could have been yesterday, or several days ago. We've learned to accept style and punctuation sloppiness in text messages and sometimes in email. You think we should accept it now from our newspaper now? That's the message I'm getting.

Thomas, I like your idea on the double doors, but how often does a teller watch the door while waiting on a customer? In my bank, with me in the tellers face, she can't see who is coming in the door. Something must be done for sure. I would love to see the coward caught between the doors.

I think he meant that the robber would get caught after the hold up...they would be trapped until the police came.

I'm a customer at this bank and I know they have a double set of doors. What they should do is replace those doors with security glass and some kind of locking mechanism so when the robber is in between the doors the teller just pushes a button and the robber is locked in between the doors awaiting the law.

there is such a security device on the market. apparently this bank doesn't have one. it is actually funny to see the tapes of the **alleged bank robbers** that are caught in them PLEADING to be let go. the glass is bullet/shatterproof. they get to sit in there until the authorities arrive. i would think that bank insurance companies would require such devices, not to mention teller glass.

Why don't they have security camera's on the outside, or at least one just inside the front door? Perhaps they could get some images of the crook before the hood, etc. are on.

OMG, how can anyone describe this suspect dressed in this garb? I would say unless someone saw him, and perhaps could keep and eye on him while he ran, calling 911 of course. (no chase-ing a man with a gun) he might have been caught. Is there a possibility that all banks hire a security guard (with gun) at least during banking hours? I personally think if there was a security guard at this bank this morning, he would not have entered the bank. When a person enters anywhere looking like this man, he/she is up to NO GOOD! Seems like we have more banks than police officers, and they are still talking cuts. I wonder too, if anyone has considered hiring retired police officers? Just asking............

In a dream world, all banks would have security guards. In a dream world there would be no crime. But unfortunately these things cost money and while bank CEOs are making huge amounts, the people at the local branches are being cut by the hundreds. If they can't afford their tellers and are laying them off then how would they have money to hire security guards? Also you need to remember although the government bailed out many banks, we do not actually own the banks. Therefor deciding that they need to hire police officers to make up for the lost jobs is not up to us.

Is it just me or is this turning into some kind of epidemic? I mean, I'm somewhat new to the area, I didn't grow up here, but having a couple banks robbed a month all in the same area seems a bit much.

I have to assume that it has something to do with the economy and the lack of hope for young adults to get decent paying and satisfying work. On the other hand, it does seem to happen every few years.

Can we have someone teach a course at WCC in "white collar" crimes so these poor individuals learn how to steal the proper way? This make our city and county look like low class and un-educated!
