Drunken man charged in Ann Arbor bank robbery remains jailed
A drunken man found passed out hours after police say he robbed an Ann Arbor bank Monday has been charged with bank robbery.
James Nicholas, 40, was arraigned and is being held in the Washtenaw County Jail on $25,000 bond.
A Pittsfield Township police officer found Nicholas at about 6:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Crane Road and West Michigan Avenue, Pittsfield police have said.
The officer responded to a report of a man sleeping in a truck and saw open liquor bottles in the vehicle, police said. The officer had a hard time waking Nicholas up.
Nicholas is accused of robbing a Chase bank branch on West Stadium Boulevard at about 4 p.m. that day. The cash was recovered, Ann Arbor police said.

This is a very unfortunate situation. The power of substance abuse is something that must be recognized and helped. It can send people on a downward spiral of self deprecating behavior and poor judgment. My thoughts are with this man and his family as they suffer the consequences of his decisions and the impact of his disease.

Why of course he was drunk. Bank robbing is a very dangerous and stressful job and one needs to unwind after a hard day on the job. Whenever I rob a bank I like to relax wit a SHOT or two, but, being a responsible citizen, I never then drive.
