Second mailbox damaged by gunshot in Augusta Township neighborhood

By Kyle Feldscher

A second mailbox was damaged by an apparent gunshot in the same Augusta Township neighborhood where a similar incident occurred last week, police said.

Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating the report of a mailbox damaged by gunshot in the 13000 block of Bunton Road in Augusta Township. Deputies were called to the same block on Jan. 9 for a report of a mailbox being destroyed by a shotgun blast.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Derrick Jackson said it’s unknown if the two incidents are related, and deputies are still investigating the incident. The mailboxes that have been destroyed are at two different homes on the block, Jackson said.

On Jan. 9, a 40-year-old man heard several shotgun blasts near the road, according to police. The mailbox was ruined, but no one was injured and no suspects were found.

Police are still looking for information on these incidents and encourage anyone with information to call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at 734-973-7711.

81wolverine, you seem to miss the simple axiom: Guns + Liberalville(Ann Arbor) + any sort of crime = News Article which tries to stir up anti gun, anti 2nd Amendment sentiment! If you've lived here since '81 you should know that silly! How else are the left wing media idiots supposed to resurrect Gun Control ideas from the grave they've finally been dumped into over the last few years? If they don't turn everyone who uses a gun into the LA/North Hollywood shooting, they'll certainly miss out on an opportunity to tell others what to do and how to live their lives! Wake up man, THAT'S why it's news, here. Oh and as far as the idiots doing this, I hope they get caught, yes, bad, bad, bad. But I find it hard to believe that this isn't kids with their daddy's shotgun that he keeps under the bed. Which, if you have kids is a bad idea. John Dillinger and Co. this isn't,

Since this is the second time in a week that a shot gun has been used to destroy a mailbox, I think the individuals that live in that area believe it to be newsworthy. What if the person using this shotgun had bad aim? It could hit a person, animal or damage other more important property. A little unnerving to know that there is a person running around the area with a shotgun shooting at mailboxes, especially since most of the houses sit behind their mailboxes and bullets can head in many directions. :)

No offense, but this isn't even newsworthy. Random vandalism by kids qualifies as news?

Yea right, random vandalism by kids carrying guns and shooting at will. Nope. No need to worry at all. I feel safe already. Thank goodness for our right to bear arms.
