Two men charged in shooting in downtown Ann Arbor

By Lee Higgins

Two men accused of shooting a man during a drug deal in downtown Ann Arbor on Wednesday are being held on $250,000 cash or surety bonds after being arraigned this morning at the Washtenaw County Jail.

Glenn Bradley, 23, suspected of being the shooter, is charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

In addition, Bradley and his alleged accomplice, 20-year-old Christopher Blalock, are charged with assault with intent to rob while armed and conspiracy.

The two Ann Arbor men are accused of meeting a 42-year-old Ypsilanti man to buy marijuana from him and attempting to rob him in a parking lot in the 400 block of Thompson Street, police said.

Bradley fired two shots from a shotgun about 10:50 p.m., police said, hitting the victim once in the left leg. The victim remains in serious condition this afternoon at University of Michigan Hospital, Lt. Mark St. Amour said. No other arrests are anticipated.

Bradley also has charges pending out of Woodhaven for obstructing a police officer and driving with a suspended license, jail officials said.

State Department of Corrections records show Blalock has a criminal record that includes convictions for unlawful use of a motor vehicle and operating while intoxicated.

Amen. It's funny that someone must get paid to read the message board all day.

If there was no illegal money in drugs, there would be no violence in drugs. What we have been doing for the last 20 years that I have been on the job has created scenarios like this, not prevented them. It is time to legalize. If we were growing our own here in the US, it would take the money out of Mexican drug cartels hands and put it in the bank accounts of our farmers. No money train, no violence, unless of course Jedediah and Obediah got to dueling with their pitchforks!

A tired argument that is, of course, ridiculous. Violence caused by small marijuana deals is rare and insignificant, so legalization--which we're getting closer to--won't cause much of a spike or drop either way. The kids involved in this shooting may not be the brightest, and would be shooting over something else if not drugs. Finally, consider what you're saying when you talk about legalizing all drugs. Maybe you could handle a lil' heroin here and a crack puff there, but that doesn't mean all citizens have the capability. How has society handled alcohol? Cigarettes? With the former killing innocent people and cause bonehead domestic disputes we all pay for, that it extends far beyond their own choice to self-destruct. Cigarettes we all know about. As someone who has done a lot of drugs, I can testify that my former comrades will rob you and beat you despite the legal status of their chemicals.

Sad, I wish the victim a speedy recovery, and hope the shooters not only spend some time locked up, but with mental health care to ensure they don't walk out the door crazier and more ready to kill. Unlikely though...

Imagine if Drugs were legal...What kind of banter would be going on in message boards? Look at the drug situation in Portugal: http://www.france24.com/en/20110701-portugal-drug-law-show-results-ten-years-experts-say#

Common sense would tell someone that this would be the result. Glad there is now proof.

"two Ann Arbor men are accused of meeting a 42-year-old Ypsilanti man to buy marijuana " Was this "MEDICAL Marijuana"? Did they have a Prescription? Sounds like this would be a good topic for the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti City Councils to talk about for the next 2 years instead of doing city raising our taxes!

So it sounds like you want to remove the medicinal bill. If that is the case then: 1)We should take all abused prescription meds off the market. 2)By doing so you will create a new black market for the Mexican Cartels(which allows them to move into MI) By having legal ways, for those who need these medications, it has been proven much easier to combat black market sources.
