A husband and wife were charged with first-degree home invasion after police say the man broke into a Lodi Township home last week and was pinned down by the homeowner until police arrived.

Thomas Earl, 48, and his wife Pamela Earl, 42, both of Saline, were arraigned Thursday on home invasion charges. Pamela Earl is accused of driving the getaway car.

Both remain at the Washtenaw County Jail — Thomas Earl is held on a cash bond of $10,000, and Pamela Earl is held on a cash bond of $5,000.

Both suspects are due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 25, according to an official at the jail.

A Lodi Township man and woman were inside their home in the 7000 block of Lindemann Road at 12:11 p.m. Jan. 11 when they heard a noise in the kitchen, according to a media summary. The woman went to investigate and discovered a stranger, who raised a hammer at her, the summary said.

The woman fell back, but was not struck, the summary said.

The intruder attempted to run out of a side door, and the male resident grabbed him, the summary said. They fell onto the deck, and the woman called 911 as the man wrestled with the intruder and held him down.

Deputies arrived and arrested Thomas Earl, police said. They learned his getaway vehicle was still in the area, stopped it, and arrested Pamela Earl.
