Sheriff’s deputies who responded to a vandalism report at the former Victory Academy Wednesday found furniture tipped over, file cabinets open with drawers and contents strewn on the floor and ketchup squirted on desks and tables in the area that had been a teachers’ lounge and some nearby offices.

The facility at 1715 E. Forest Ave. in Ypsilanti Township was the home of Victory Academy, a charter school that closed after Bay Mills Community College chose not to renew its charter. The building has yet to be repurposed.

It’s not clear how the vandal or vandals got into the building, Washtenaw County sheriff’s Sgt. Geoffrey Fox said. Deputies found an exterior door propped open, and it may have been left unlocked, he said. There were no signs of forced entry.

A maintenance worker reported the vandalism about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, but the vandalism could have occurred any time in the past few days, Fox said.

Sheriff’s deputies are investigating, Fox said. Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call the sheriff’s department confidential tip line at 734- 973-7711 or 1-800-SPEAK UP.
