Ypsilanti Township man charged with stealing cell phones from two women in Ann Arbor, police say
An Ypsilanti Township man is accused of stealing cell phones from two women during a fight early Sunday near the intersection of South State and Hill streets, Ann Arbor police said.
Perry Duane Hannah II, 21, was arraigned Monday at the Washtenaw County Jail on two counts of larceny from a person, county court records show.
Police say Hannah was with a 29-year-old man and 22-year-old woman, both from Toledo, when the thefts occurred at about 2 a.m. Sunday.
All three were arrested, but no other charges have been filed as detectives continue to investigate the incident, Lt. Mark St. Amour said.
The incident began when Hannah and the two people with him offered to drive three women walking in the area to a party, but they declined the invitation, police said.
According to police, that's when the woman with Hannah got out of the car and punched one of the women in the face. A fight ensued, and two cell phones were taken from the victims, police said.
Two of the victims are University of Michigan students, police say.
Hannah has been released on $2,000 bond, jail officials said. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison on each felony count.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 1.
