Indiana police said they found a body in a swamp this morning believed to be that of missing Pittsfield Township woman Dawn Marie Fital.

Her boyfriend, Greg Noack, 44, of Pittsfield Township, remains jailed in connection with the case. Washtenaw County Chief Deputy Assistant Prosecutor Steve Hiller said this afternoon that no charges have been filed yet.

Robert Arnold, deputy commander of the Lake County Sheriff’s office, said a member of the sheriff’s aquatics team found the body at 9:13 a.m. today in shallow water in a swamp behind a Toys ‘R’ Us store off Route 30 between Hobart and Merrillville.

The search was conducted after Noack provided information in a Michigan State Police interview that led police to believe the body was in the swamp, Arnold said. Identification of the body is pending review by the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Arnold said he did not have information about the condition of the body.

Hobart is northeast of Merrillville in northwest Indiana.

Fital, 45, has been missing since Monday. Police in Merrillville detained Noack Tuesday after someone reported seeing him acting suspiciously behind a bank, Pittsfield Township police said Wednesday. Merrillville police asked Pittsfield police to do a welfare check on Fital Tuesday night after they interviewed Noack.

Family members Wednesday said Fital was an international championship pool player who regularly traveled to compete across the country.

Little girls grow up to be women and both contribute so much to happiness and life. How any man could abuse or murder a defenseless woman or a child is beyond understanding and beyond forgiveness.

Sad story. RIP. Who gets to prosecute the case? Where was the crime committed? Because of the crossing of the state line could this rise to a Federal case. (Feds have death penalty) Conceptually I like the death penalty but our justice and appealite court system drag the case on, at significant cost to the tax payers, too long.
