Fire started after man was grilling near apartment house, Ypsilanti fire officials say
Eleven people were displaced by Thursday morning's fire at an apartment house in the 300 block of North Adams Street, Ypsilanti fire officials said.
No one was injured. The blaze started on the ground floor after a man was grilling chicken outside on a charcoal grill in close proximity to the two-story house, Fire Inspector John Roe said.
The man attempted to put out the 11:30 a.m. fire by throwing snow on it, Roe said.
The fire caused $35,000 damage to the home and $8,000 damage to contents, Roe said. Two apartments in the five-unit house sustained fire damage, officials said.
Firefighters from several departments responded to the blaze.

The griller was clearly a moron. It is not that difficult to operate a charcoal grill without burning down any nearby structures if even a modicum of thought is involved. The same goes for the functional retards who burn their garages/homes down while deep frying the Thanksgiving turkey.

@antonebraga--you are exactly right, and while the fire was being put out the American Red Cross was at the scene providing lodging, food vouchers, clothing and other asistance. This was all done free of charge. The American Red Cross also works with these victims after the disaster to provide referrals to other agencies here in Washtenaw County so these other agencies can provide free assistance to help these victims (regardless of race, religion, or income level) to start the rocovery process.

Doesn't city code in Ypsilanti ban the use of charcoal grills? We tell our tenants they may only use propane.
