Former University of Michigan football player faces new criminal charge

By Lee Higgins

A former University of Michigan cornerback already charged with stealing money from delivery drivers in Ann Arbor is accused of grabbing money from a cab driver in Ypsilanti the same morning, Ypsilanti police Lt. Paul DeRidder said.

Boubacar Cissoko, 20, of Southfield, who was kicked off the team in October, is charged with larceny from a person, according to a felony complaint filed at 14A-1 District Court.

According to court records, the theft occurred early March 13 when investigators say Cissoko also stole money from two food deliverymen in Ann Arbor.

In the latest case, Cissoko is accused of grabbing money from a 65-year-old male cab driver on Green Road, DeRidder said. The driver picked up Cissoko on South State Street in Ann Arbor and was getting change for Cissoko's fare when the theft occurred, DeRidder said.

The victim didn't immediately report the incident and wasn't interviewed until mid-April, DeRidder said. Cissoko admitted to Ann Arbor police that he was involved, DeRidder said.

Cissoko has been at the Washtenaw County Jail since April 18, when he was arrested shortly after Ann Arbor police say he pulled out a pellet gun on a cab driver in Ann Arbor and attempted to rob him. In that case, Cissoko was charged with assault with intent to rob while armed. He also was previously charged with two counts of larceny from a person after the thefts from the food deliverymen.

According to court records, Cissoko has not been served with the latest warrant. It will mark the fourth time he's been arrested in a year.

Cissoko was dismissed from the team after violating unspecified team rules twice in 2009. He started the first four games as a sophomore during the 2009 season, then missed two games because of a suspension. He saw limited action against Penn State before being kicked off the team.

He is currently being held on $60,000 bail, jail officials said this morning.

Obviously "Bobo" was the key to michigan's winning games. Started the first 4 games, they won. I think Rich Rod needs to rethink this guy, maybe get him back on some sort of Probationary period. Might be the difference in keeping his job. Love those Glasses Stefanie.

First of all, it seems that every story about Michigan and its troubles (perceived or not) gets a response from certain people about MSU's football team. It gets sort of old, in my opinion. Ms. Murray is right--this story has nothing to do with MSU and please, let's stop bashing MSU at every turn. Now, I wonder if Mr. Cissoko has a serious mental illness. Mental illnesses do rear themselves when young people hit adulthood, and it makes me wonder. (Similar to Larry Harrison from a few years ago, who also probably has a mental illness). Just because these guys are football players does not make them exempt from society's ills. I agree that Mr. Cissoko has dug his own grave so to speak, but given his continued record, let's hope he can get treatment if needed. (BTW, I wonder if that Nebraska player and the former OSu player also had mental illness).

Funny how when Carr was the coach, fans criticized him for being standoffish from the media and keeping his players from speaking at various times. Now, they criticize the media for tearing apart the program (which they are NOT doing, btw). Perhaps, though, 'ol Lloyd wasn't so dumb after all.

People get so upset. He is a former Michigan player and will always be that. Also, that characteristic of his life is the only reason Annarbor.com would even mention it. Aside from his membership on the team, he's just another random guy stealing, all the time apparently. Also, I'm not sure I'd refer to him as "this talented kid." I remember being somewhat relieved when he was kicked off the team. He was undersized, slow and had bad instincts. He got burned whenever he had 1-on-1, and if by chance the receiver plain dropped it, he would boast as if he was Deion Sanders.

Just about EVERY HEADLINE I have ever seen is DESIGNED to CATCH YOUR ATTENTION to read the article. That is the nature of most news organizations. Listen to WXYZ or WDIV TV.. They are just as good at the same thing with video and sound. The good spin is the FIRST word in the headline is "FORMER" leaving no doubt the person was not part of the program. If anything, it is a validation that UM Sports does not carry students that do not adhere to the rules and standards of the program. This person has been consistent in self destruction. It should be our concern that can he get help OR the "lights may go on" in his head and he turns it around. It is his choice. And Michigan should no longer be connected to is current and future actions.... but.... wait until the next headline....

Hahahaha... Tater is gonna get booted from his own beloved site. Of course I read a post by you on another site pertaining to some investigation regarding an NBA player. Seems your hypocrisy is sticking out. I'm not sure of the problem. The headline is accurate. He played on the football team at one point. So therefore he is a FORMER player for UM. The article stated he was kicked off the team. So.. what's the complaint about the article? To some fans... I would think the article reinforces that UM made a good decision by kicking him off the team. But I guess... when you are not very thicked skin, you worry about everything people say... whether it's intended good or bad.

I'm sure a lot of people find extra interest that someone went from being on U of M's football team to being kicked out and arrested 4 times all within a year (I do). "Nearly" a year ago isn't that long ago, and still qualifies him as a former football player for U of M.

This talented kid had everything going for him and he's flushing his life down the toilet with no one else to blame but himself. A true study in self-destructive behavior.

Why is this headline emblazzened with "Former U of M football player", when this kid was kicked off the team nearly a year ago now. Apparently rightly so.
