Humane Society of Huron Valley boosts reward for information regarding assault of dogs to $1,000

By Heather Lockwood

The Humane Society of Huron Valley has increased its reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for the March 9 assaults against two Sylvan Township dogs to $1,000, Matt Schaecher, supervisor of cruelty and rescue, told AnnArbor.com today.

Schaecher also said the humane society has distributed fliers throughout the neighborhood where the dogs lived and were found severely injured, urging anyone with information to come forward.

Bella, a Rottweiler-hound mix, was one of the dogs attacked.

The dogs — a 9-month-old Rottweiler-hound mix and a 5-year-old shepherd mix — went missing the morning of March 9 and were found, severely injured, at different times later that day by a passing motorist, Schaecher said.

Both dogs were euthanized due to their injuries, which were determined to have been intentionally inflicted with a hatchet while the dogs were bound, Schaecher said.

The hatchet has not been recovered, he said.

After being euthanized, the dogs were sent to Michigan State University where necropsies were performed, Schaecher said.

The Michigan State University Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health declined to release any information regarding the results of those tests to AnnArbor.com today.

Carole Bolin, director of the center, said the results are confidential and the center would not be releasing them to the press.

Schaecher also declined to release any further details regarding the dogs’ injuries.

I'm hoping that the low life that did this will be turned in by his low life family or "friend?" strictly for the money.

My offer of an additional $100 still stands from last nights report of this. Lets all get together and get it up to like 20 grand. I bet someone will "bark out the truth" with a nice cash reward ! No pun intended !

I can't even begin to understand how this individual could have stood there listening to the painful cries of these dogs without even a pinch of shame or guilt. Must be a some kind of psychopath and we need to get this coward off the streets. Kudos to the passerby who got the dogs help. At least their last moments on earth were in caring and loving hands.

Wonder if the sheriff/police dept is involved too...or is this just being left up to the humane society to get these criminals off the street! When will this type of thing get the police attention like it should???

When they find a human on the side of the road is my guess. This kind of thing is never taken seriously by the law and I dont understand why.

I for one, don't want to know the gory details. If the information is confidential, then THAT is what it is! Finding the Hatchet, might bring some leads.

Why is the information confidential?

Because it is a criminal investigation.
